Did you hear this news story?

Four men lured a woman to a motel room under false pretenses and proceeded to tie her up. One of the men punched her in the face and poured glue on her genitalia as punishment for alleged sexual infidelity.

Oh, no wait, that was Four women lured a man, etc.

My own reaction to this story has weirded me out.

The expected balance of power and violence wasn't carried out; it's not unusual to be at a loss as to how to react to that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "expected balance of power and violence." Can you clarify?

Sexualized violence against women is nothing new or shocking; sexualized violence against men is surprising.

Sexualized violence against women is certainly more prevalent. I guess I am fortunate enough to still find it shocking and repulsive. My quandary, as you may have read in other comments, was in confronting the fact that by finding the incident of women attacking men amusing, I was respecting neither men nor women. By not holding the women responsible for having over-reacted, I was delegitimizing their anger, which is not right.
