deelaundry: man reading in an airport with his face hidden by the book (RSL laughs)

On last night's Colbert Report, he mentioned mpreg, saying, "Teenage boys, you can get pregnant too. Sometimes it goes back up and you grow a baby in your ball sack."

This image of mpreg physiology is one I had never considered. O_O XD \o/

I may be looking up scrotal lymphedema as we speak.

I'm just going back to my You and You Can See brain, because for the egg to get to the testicles it'd take more push than most ovaries can provide. Unless there's some sort of reverse suctioning going on or something.

Maybe it can happen during docking? That might be closest in analogy, for two guys. (And totally glossing over the paternal-maternal imprinting.)

All I can say in my defense is, it's Friday night and it's been a long week.

What does it say about me that I don't think you need excuses to think about this stuff because it's too much fun?

Even discounting the paternal-maternal imprinting, there's still the question of the one-in-four chance of a YY chromosome set which wouldn't even be viable - that wouldn't be a problem to worry about with sperm-and-egg, but sperm-and-sperm, as the rules are going, would make that a genuine concern.

I don't think I could pull it off in House, but a fandom with actual aliens - not SGA human-aliens or even ET phoning home aliens, but real aliens - might be able to do it.

A YY zygote wouldn't survive past the first few rounds of division, so it's a moot point. Of the 3 viable possibilities, there is 1/3 chance of XX and 2/3 chance of XY.

I think we could pull it off in House if we hand-wave the problem of imprinting. And called it total crack!fic, of course.

ETA: Most cases of scrotal lymphedema give masses in the tens of kilograms. We'd need maybe 6-7 kg total for fetus and placenta. Totally doable! *cough* Also estrogen.

There is always crack, yes, but I always feel you need to commit to a story to make it work, and that's especially true for anything that isn't real. Which is, yes, why real-world details of scrotal lymphedema are so necessary for adding the right heft and power to the ideas.

Where's [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu?
Why? Does she know someone?

I do say so! But more importantly, I completely agree with your idea of crack; once you've really decided it's true, that helps the audience believe it too. That was my favourite part of writing mpreg. By having everyone in the world see it as unusual but hardly unheard of, the story itself was stronger.

Dude, you don't remember me? You once gave me a prompt and I wrote you a ficlet! I feel all unmemorable. *single perfect tear*

Zulu, this is Hannah. She is most active in House fandom, although she adores High Fidelity and used to watch SGA. She is an expert AU builder, with particular interest in anthropology, civilization development, and science-based superpowers. She loves cooking and music, and is a nice person and an excellent thinker, albeit with a slightly underdeveloped Silly side. Hope you don't mind me saying that, Hannah; it's just that you tend to be more on the literal and serious side.

Except when she makes a joke and it goes over my head, because that happens sometimes too. ♥

Thanks for the intro, Dee! We have had a couple of conversations but I guess they were a while ago. Yep, I was joking around: the topic at hand seemed to encourage it.

Hi, Hannah! *waves*

I really have no way to know if someone is joking unless I have spent a good deal of time getting to know them; as that was not the case here, I had no way to understand what you were trying to communicate, leading to an immense amount of difficulty on my end.

A good mutual friend likes you, though, so I will make the attempt.

Hello.

Hannah, this is Zulu. She has a One True Character (House) instead of a One True Pairing, although she currently ships House/Foreman. Yes, really. She can make you buy it. She was formerly in SGA fandom and Buffy fandom. She loves pie, her motorcycle, and fic of all kinds.

I do not understand the idea of a One True Character for much the same reasons I do not understand the idea of a One True Pairing; I have devoted time to figuring out the objective aspects of why I do not like the idea of House with any of his fellows, present or past; I have never seen an episode of Buffy.

However, you are a good judge of character, so I will make the attempt to get to know her.

*headdesk* I just shoved my foot down my throat there, didn't I. :-( My deepest apologies. TBH I never saw your fic as crack, but as AU. The way you defined the rules in your abortion!fic universe, it made perfect sense. I didn't mean to offend.

It's quite all right. It was more puzzling than anything else - mostly me wondering why one counted and not the other for the purposes of the discussion.

Your genetic math there is exactly why House and Foreman had a son and not a daughter!
