On last night's Colbert Report, he mentioned mpreg, saying, "Teenage boys, you can get pregnant too. Sometimes it goes back up and you grow a baby in your ball sack."

This image of mpreg physiology is one I had never considered. O_O XD \o/

Dunno, exterior fetal development...I've played with a couple of ideas like that, although positioning it in the groin would be impractical for a number of reasons, not the least of which would be that it'd hamper the ability for the mother to protect the gestating fetus.

I remember reading an article about a man with an untreated inguinal hernia. About half his intestine ended up in his scrotum. Why not have a fetus grow in the sac too? :-D

Plus the whole giant scrotum thing. And even if the vas deferens went two ways, how would the egg get in there?

It's quite hilarious to think about, though. XD XD

No doubt! If anyone was going to troll RPS communities, I bet it'd be him. Heh.

The pregnant man could wear an expandable truss, similar to one for an inguinal hernia, for support and protection.

Then again, the increased heat in the scrotum would reduce sperm production, possibly to the point of infertility; and then there'd be the question of testicular torsion or crushing under the pressure. This form of mpreg might be a one-time-only event.

I imagine one could also liken it to elephantiasis with the scrotal swelling.

It all starts out as the same basic plumbing, which in humans defaults to female. Having the ovary hang outside the body is mostly a question of placement of the necessary tubes for flow. Although sperm hangs outside because it's delicate stuff and needs the cooling from normal body temperature, and ovaries are sturdier and can stay inside.

I'm probably over-thinking things again.

Restricted mobility would be another disadvantage - without the ability to protect and care for oneself, the one doing the gestating is at extreme risk. It wouldn't be long before bed rest would be enforced not out of necessity, but as the only option.

Not to mention wondering how the fetus would exit the body.

I HAVE THIS HORRIBLE MENTAL IMAGE OF SOME LARGE BIKER DUDE WADDLING AROUND, PUSHING HIS BALL-BABY IN FRONT OF HIM WITH, LIKE, A WHEELBARROW OR A PUSH CART OR SOMETHING.

I HAD TO SHARE THE PAIN.

I'm just going back to my You and You Can See brain, because for the egg to get to the testicles it'd take more push than most ovaries can provide. Unless there's some sort of reverse suctioning going on or something.

AWWWW, BALL-BABY! Better than the post-apocalyptic fanfic in which certain men gained the ability to get pregnant and then GREW A NEW ORIFICE when it was time to give birth. What's that "seam" of skin behind the testicles? That would split open when the birth canal was created. GLRK

Maybe it can happen during docking? That might be closest in analogy, for two guys. (And totally glossing over the paternal-maternal imprinting.)

All I can say in my defense is, it's Friday night and it's been a long week.

What does it say about me that I don't think you need excuses to think about this stuff because it's too much fun?

Even discounting the paternal-maternal imprinting, there's still the question of the one-in-four chance of a YY chromosome set which wouldn't even be viable - that wouldn't be a problem to worry about with sperm-and-egg, but sperm-and-sperm, as the rules are going, would make that a genuine concern.

I don't think I could pull it off in House, but a fandom with actual aliens - not SGA human-aliens or even ET phoning home aliens, but real aliens - might be able to do it.
