13: "You are the champion of not dealing with your problems."
House: "My grandson got me a mug that says that."

Where did that come from? I'm assuming it's a joke, but I don't get it. "My love child got me a mug..." or "My bastard kid got me a mug..." would make sense, but "My grandson..." I don't get.

The episode overall: Loved it. Yes, Amber's death was idealized but eh, a lot on this show is. RSL was wonderful this ep, as was Anne Dudek and HL (but of course).

Now just waiting for [livejournal.com profile] stephbass to tell me about the cool and/or annoying director things. : )

"My grandson got me a mug that says that."

LOL, I totally thought of the Jack-verse with that line!

The more I think about the ep, the sadder I get. My initial high that Amber and House were not having an affair is wearing off...

Awww, but House didn't get to see his grandson in the Jack-verse. :( Wilson did, though, and very much enjoyed babysitting.

I am with you on the relief that House and Amber weren't having an affair, or a one-night stand, or anything. Phew.

They never explained the champagne memory from last ep. He wasn't celebrating anything at all, was he? And she drank the cosmo.

"Yeah, I don't deal with my problems. I mix Vicodin with alcohol, sleep with hookers, and manipulate the lives of those around me, but I'M STILL HERE, and I WILL OUTLIVE YOU."

Maybe that's what he meant. :/

That would be awesome, if that's what he meant.

I don't quite get it either, but I guess it's a joke about the mugs that say "Champion Grandpa" and so forth, and they made it a grandson to make it more obvious that it was a joke and not a confession. Because you know if he said "my love child got me..." there would be rampant speculation that he really did have one.

Last episode they made a point of saying how old House is, so I don't know... Conspiracy theorists could still run with it.

Was that in the ep? I swear my mind is jello. I remember Wilson crying, House crying, and me crying. That's about it. Must rewatch but no until I find some freaking chocolate. I assume the grandpa thing is because she made him feel old because of the movie that was out before she was born. Same scene?

It was when House confronted Thirteen in the bathroom.

I think it was just a throwaway line. But I have no doubt that a few fandom crazies are going to derive a deeper meaning from that line.

I know it was throwaway, but usually even those make some sense. Oh well. A mystery for the ages!

I thought it was House being House, mocking every stupidly vapid, meaningless "Hallmark motto" ever written. That something like that could so easily be on one of those "joke coffee mugs" that people buy as presents, without ever thinking about it.

OK. I still think it would've been funnier as "You don't deal with problems." -- "My long-lost bastard kid gave me a mug that says that." Because in that case, it would be someone who'd be likely to actually accuse him of that. Funnier joke.

An extremely minor thing that caught my attention in an exemplary episode. That, and "Donna Wilson" (which after re-winding twice I realized was "Dial-a-Wilson").

I thought he meant he didn't deal with a "love child" problem and it multiplied, hence the "grandchild". I mean that's really not dealing!!!

I took House's line to be one of his ways of rubbing a little salt in the wound while making a point. If Thirteen does not take the Huntington's test, she'll never know and she'll never have children, and thus grandchildren, because of the uncertainty. Whereas if she does take the test, she can actually make the decision instead of living her life avoiding it.
