Well. The things the kid said in the diner were pure House lines (first meeting and second meeting). I'm surprised Wilson didn't recognize them as House-scripted, but maybe he was drawn in by whatever Beth said.

However, it made me rather puffed up with pride to see my characterization of an eleven-year old influenced by both Wilson and House was not far off the show's writers' version. Heh.

Wilson realizing he'd made a commitment he wasn't ready to keep actually showed his maturity better than anything else in the episode.

I liked the Taub sub-plot and the POTW's character subplot (his medical subplot was annoying).

Number one complaint? TURN ON THE LIGHTS, SHOWRUNNERS!

Number two complaint: UP YOURS, FORD PRODUCT PLACEMENT. A Volvo made sense for Wilson's character; a Ford Taurus does not.

The fact that the kid was not really his son hit me when 'Duncan' said he liked prosciutto. No American (or Canadian) kid I know likes prosciutto and goat cheese, especially on pizza! The fact that they were exactly the things that Wilson liked was like, so, "Wilson, wake up, can't you see this is a House set up?" House is a jerk, and had that backfired on him, he could have alienated Wilson for the last time, but I understand why he did it. he was telling Wilson "Wake up, dummy, and admit to yourself you're not meant for that traditional life you've been hunting for! Admit you want to do me, already!"
What is with the dim lighting and lack of music anyway? I almost fell asleep--literally!

I'm not a Taub fan, so I'm afraid I can't agree with you there:)

From the first meeting, the kid's phrasings were so very, very much House. I was waiting for Wilson to realize it right then.

I liked prosciutto and goat cheese when I was a kid but I was unusually culturally diverse for an American kid.
From what I've heard from several sources I'm kind of glad i did not see this epie.

Hi Dee! I watched and wanted to punch House in the face even more than I remembered from my time in the fandom, so I don't think getting back into it for the final run of episode is in the cards for me, I'm afraid...

EDIT: OH MAN, someone in the house_wilson comment section just used the phrase "Byronic anti-hero," that takes me back.

He was quite "punch in the face" this episode. RSL was lovely, though.

Someone clearly needs to make a supercut video of just every bit of screentime RSL's had on the show - I'd totally watch all of that.

God, I was hoping we were finally rid of that Byronic crap. I want to see RSL but I do not know if I can take another round of House's cruel pranks.

I had the same reaction to the Ford placement.
The character sub-plot was annoying. Fighting in hockey is a definite Issue but has nothing to do with bullying, which is what Taub was reacting to. Two separate Issues.

Yeah, I know Taub was reacting to something other than what the patient actually did in hockey, but I just liked the way Peter Jacobson played it. And I liked the patient dealing with his conflicting emotions about having the role he had.

Although with swollen breast tissue and crying, I thought estrogen was going to come up at some point (other than House telling Wilson he was lactating).

Ditto on the Ford placement. But at least we know Wilson still owns the loft; I really like that place, much better than Amber's cramped apartment or *shiver* the hotel.

I liked the kid playing "Duncan." House's comment was true, the boy does look enough like Wilson to be his son.

The cheese "likes" were a dead giveaway to me, too. Too bad the whole episode was really about House tricking Wilson into admitting he's not "Dad" material! Given time, I think he would make a great father. And, you're right, it WAS a mature realization on his part.

But, now, Wilson still doesn't have anyone in his life except the sneaky, limping twerp! Or maybe it's, "Hurray! Wilson still doesn't have anyone in his life except the sneaky, limping twerp!" Hilson forever!

I love the loft too. It's beautiful. And Wilson earns enough to afford it (and a better car than the Ford Taurus).

Given time, I think he would make a great father.

I think he could, and it's sad that House thought this particular set-up was proof otherwise.

I genuinely could not understand how Wilson was not enormously suspicious the entire time. It seemed SO obvious, in some ways because the kid just seemed too good to be true, but also because the mother was so conspicuously absent. Like, hello, Wilson, you may have made a genetic contribution, but you're a stranger, LOL.

Wilson wasn't suspicious because he's a trusting soul who wants to believe. How did the kid say it? "Soft-hearted wuss" or something like that.

Maybe Beth was really convincing on the phone? All, "You never called me, James, how dare you! I'll never let you see him! ... Ok, but I certainly don't want to see you, you ass. I have a friend who'll drop him off so I don't have to deal with you."

Other than the writers stringing the viewers along with another non-revelation, I liked watching Wilson's sojourn into fatherhood. RSL ran a gamut of emotions. While he wasn't prepared to take on full fatherhood chores, he seemed a bit regretful that the boy wasn't his, or maybe I'm seeing what I want to see.

Such a shame about the product placement interfering with canon.

I adored watching Wilson's sojourn into fatherhood. RSL's awkwardness with physical contact worked well for him here -- and it was such a delight to see Wilson smile so much. I definitely think he was regretful that the kid wasn't his.

Of course, what House set up for Wilson was a false dilemma. Just because Wilson wasn't ready to be a sole-custody father within a few days of realizing he had a child doesn't mean Wilson couldn't/shouldn't ever be a father.

You're right. Parenthood is not always something that comes instantly when a child arrives, whether a newborn or an 11-year-old. For some people it takes a while. All first-time parents have to learn how to take care of and love a child. They don't come with instruction books, and "love at first sight" doesn't happen for all parents. Sadly, sex results in too many unwanted kids.

However, if tptb gave Wilson an imperfect child - not an actor working from notes - and let him slowly learn about him/her, Wilson would have the chance to learn that he can "be there" for him/her.

But, of course, there are not enough episodes left and tptb will always let House win in the end. House does not like to share!

And RSL ROCKED in this episode! Probably the last time we'll see him this much in the series. The writers just seem to waste his talent. Can't wait for him to come back to Broadway!

Not having seen the ep (I had to work last night), I can only say that as far as I'm concerned, the Ford was a rental. The Volvo was in the shop for some routine repairs and maintenance.

I didn't see the ep but I've read most of the reviews and reactions so I think I'll chime in! I would think Wilson would be good with kids having dealt with House for so many years. Wouldn't that make him excellent when faced with childish behavior? I think so. Anyway, Wilson sets himself up - wanting a "normal" life and in the end he knows House is not going to let go of him and he gives in. I think he secretly likes being the center of one person's life even if it is screwed up, he does love House and he does think that House is more important in the scheme of the world than he is. He gets his kick being The One And Only. I think the series will end with House and Wilson sitting on the couch just they way they've done for years and years.
