Little Help from Cooks on my F-list?

I have the wee-baby-est of plot bunnies toddling through my head. To start if off, I need the name of a recipe that requires very little work but can seems complicated to non-cooks, so that a cook could hide out in the kitchen without interruption.

ETA: So many good suggestions! I'm going to go with ratatouille, because it's veggie-full and "foreign," and therfore perfect for the character's purposes.

What blackmare_9 said. Just curious. I do have an irish potato recipe that is very very time consuming and he would be in the kitchen for a long time first making the mix and then rolling the balls, then rolling them in cinnamon.
