I have the wee-baby-est of plot bunnies toddling through my head. To start if off, I need the name of a recipe that requires very little work but can seems complicated to non-cooks, so that a cook could hide out in the kitchen without interruption.

ETA: So many good suggestions! I'm going to go with ratatouille, because it's veggie-full and "foreign," and therfore perfect for the character's purposes.

Thanks!

Pretty much any recipe where most of the emphasis is on the prep work - ratatouille comes to mind, and roasted chicken can be magic if you don't know how to do it - could fit the bill.

Some sort of risotto might be suitable, too.

I second the risotto suggestion. Easy to try and make, difficult to master and get right. I still don't know how to do it properly. :(

Scottish tablet. Very simple, but takes ages and looks so complicated it's shocking.

Pollo alla Cacciatora.

The version we make has all of six ingredients, but it calls for fresh rosemary and I've noticed people get scared away from recipes using fresh herbs sometimes.

[livejournal.com profile] nightdog_barks reminded me of arroz con pollo--extremely easy. It's a one pan meal.

And a roast turkey that is pre-cooked from a gourmet supermarket and basted with maple butter at home is a culinary miracle.

I'm no help whatsoever, but I am curious as to why Wilson (I'm assuming it's Wilson) is hiding out in the kitchen.

And these days, it might be a little trickier to fool House, who has become an adept cook in his own right ... so is he hiding out from someone else?

No, no, don't mind me. I can't help the questions that come to mind, and I'm sure all will be revealed in time. :-)

This is an AU that broke off from canon somewhere after the Tritter arc and before mid-Season Four, at which time Wilson started cooking for House regularly, so House never bothered to learn. :-)

Wilson is hiding out in the kitchen because he's tired of having to interact with John House.

Told you this was AU.

What [livejournal.com profile] blackmare_9 said. Just curious. I do have an irish potato recipe that is very very time consuming and he would be in the kitchen for a long time first making the mix and then rolling the balls, then rolling them in cinnamon.

I'm with Namaste on Coq au Vin. It looks complicated. It's got a fancy name. But it's actually just "brown the chicken, set it aside, brown the veggies, add the chicken, simmer."
