Speculation for ep 5-10 and after: I think Wilson is going to undergo Living Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT) to save the POTW. "The donor's liver will regenerate approaching 100% function within 4–6 weeks and will almost reach full volumetric size with recapitulation of the normal structure soon thereafter," says Wikipedia, so the House team will use the six-week hiatus to be able to totally skip the "Wilson recovering" stage and the first ep in January will have him back to normal (or almost normal).

And for those concerned that RSL might use this to seek a permanent path back to full-time Broadway: "Death after LDLT has been reported at 0% (Japan), 0.3% (USA) and <1% (Europe), with risks likely to improve further as surgeons gain more experience in this procedure."

Your thoughts?

In unrelated news, who's going to buy Wilson the Mangroomer for Xmas?

I have no idea how risky the transplant you're talking about is (numbers don't tell me much if I don't have others to compare), but it sounds like it's gonna be a pretty risky transplant for Wilson, otherwise House wouldn't react like he does on the promo (or at least what I heard from it, FUCKING SHIT IS STILL NOT ONLINE >:[ ).

But I have not the tiniest doubt that Wilson will live, otherwise the spoilers for episode 12 about House and Wilson going after the same woman sound VERY weird xD

Is the "going after the same woman" in Episode 12, or 11? I'm hoping she mistakes their flirting for being nice, because after all, they're the cute couple who moved into her neighborhood. :D

Understandably, these gander pairs are far superior to any normal pair in courage and fighting strength, since the gander is not only more courageous and aggressive than any female goose, but also heavier and stronger. Gander pairs always occupy a high rank in the social hierarchy of the goose colony. Accordingly, it is common for an unpaired female, impressed by the victories of the two heroes, to fall in love with one of them.

Among wild geese of various species one frequently finds trios, which typically consist of two males and a female...Such menages a trois can therefore not be regarded as an abnormality, much less as some kind of pathological phenomenon. Peter Scott found them frequently among the pink-footed geese in Iceland and found they were particularly successful in rearing offspring, since defense of the family by two dashing ganders was far more efficient than by one alone.

- "The Year of the Greylag Goose", Konrad Lorenz - and yes, I did transcribe that section for exactly this sort of situation.

It made me smile when I first read it - I love that he used the correct plural for "menage a trois."

(blinks) I am a better person because you told me that. And I'm not even joking. There have only been about three human societies that practices polyandry, I'm told, all from mountainous areas with extremely high elevations which lowers sperm count.
Liver transplant does seem like the most likely reason Wilson would be having surgery. Maybe the transplant committee wouldn't approve it the regular way because the guy has cancer, so his only option is a live volunteer, and Wilson matches. With all the hype about Wilson RISKING! HIS! LIFE!, though, I still think it's possible it's something else. Maybe some radical procedure we've never even heard of before.
I expect House to accuse Wilson of doing it from guilt because he can't save his friend from cancer. I also expect certain fans to claim Wilson is a bad friend to House by risking his life because House would be all alone if Wilson died (bleh!).
I'm so looking forward to an episode about Wilson's life, I'm more interested in that than the death-defying drama. I hope Wilson comes across as a competent doctor.

Mountainous areas, yes, although I read it was to keep the small amounts of cultivated land within single families and not split it up further.

Episode 12 :)

Ep 11 sounds to me like it's gonna have drama for Hilson (I'm TOTALLY expecting a hug or something of the sort) and they move more at the end of the episode, with Wilson making yet another step in the letting go of Amber.

And episode 12, for those spoilers I'm guessing it's gonna be a more light and funny episode. If the woman thinks (correctly) that they are a gay couple, I'm gonna be like this -> C:

I think that, on this show, everything is either way riskier or way safer than it is in reality.

How risky it actually is, is one thing; how House will react to that risk is quite another. We know how paranoid he gets.

Still, it takes a lot to get reactions like that from him.

The show doesn't wanna loose the old classic detached House, so my bet is that is gonna be pretty risky, reality-wise.

From the sites I was looking at last night (in the U.S., this procedure seems to be mostly performed at teaching hospitals, go figure), it is definitely a major operation. The donor is on the table for about six hours, then in the ICU for twenty-four. The total hospital stay is about a week, and total recovery takes about a month.

So it's not a walk in the park. But we'll see how the show treats it. *g*
