Speculation for ep 5-10 and after: I think Wilson is going to undergo Living Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT) to save the POTW. "The donor's liver will regenerate approaching 100% function within 4–6 weeks and will almost reach full volumetric size with recapitulation of the normal structure soon thereafter," says Wikipedia, so the House team will use the six-week hiatus to be able to totally skip the "Wilson recovering" stage and the first ep in January will have him back to normal (or almost normal).

And for those concerned that RSL might use this to seek a permanent path back to full-time Broadway: "Death after LDLT has been reported at 0% (Japan), 0.3% (USA) and <1% (Europe), with risks likely to improve further as surgeons gain more experience in this procedure."

Your thoughts?

In unrelated news, who's going to buy Wilson the Mangroomer for Xmas?

Love the idea of Wilson doing something as impulsive and generous as donating part of his liver. I'm also hoping House reneges and hovers a little at Wilson’s side without ever once suggesting Wilson apologize for suggesting DBS.

Did wonder if House comes up with a last minute diagnosis that halts the surgery, but the 6x11 spoiler about → ←seems to refute this. Possibly, the six week hiatus will not be real time. *prays to the sick!Wilson god*

My only other question: does this mean House loses the bet and the patient doesn’t have cancer? That’s why he is a suitable candidate for a liver donation?

The stuff I read last night indicated that one of the situations in which live donor transplants are most useful is in patients who do have cancer -- in their livers. Because that way the cancer can be removed very quickly, before it spreads to the rest of the body. Whereas being on the waiting list for a cadaver transplant, well, by the time they get one the cancer's likely to have killed the patient anyway.

Interesting. You and Wilson are my heroes. Thank you.

Transplant eligibility for patients with liver cancer (either primary or metastatic--usually from colon) is extremely tight, though. Like, only one or two masses under 2 cm, and limited to only one lobe. In the preview, the PotW said he'd had leukemia, however. This makes me think he'd be ineligible--unless any liver condition is entirely independent from the leukemia.

From your lips to their ears!

I actually thought of a way that they could bring DBS up and have Wilson apologize -- if Wilson didn't realize House was doing it for Wilson. If Wilson thought it was another example of House going all out, being reckless, for a patient's sake, instead of for a best friend's sake. ♥ But I'm betting DBS will never come up.

That would be sad, but not impossible; however, I'd like to think Wilson thanked House in a deleted scene some time in the past. I'll eat all my leftover turkey in one sitting if DBS comes up.
