Speculation for ep 5-10 and after: I think Wilson is going to undergo Living Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT) to save the POTW. "The donor's liver will regenerate approaching 100% function within 4–6 weeks and will almost reach full volumetric size with recapitulation of the normal structure soon thereafter," says Wikipedia, so the House team will use the six-week hiatus to be able to totally skip the "Wilson recovering" stage and the first ep in January will have him back to normal (or almost normal).

And for those concerned that RSL might use this to seek a permanent path back to full-time Broadway: "Death after LDLT has been reported at 0% (Japan), 0.3% (USA) and <1% (Europe), with risks likely to improve further as surgeons gain more experience in this procedure."

Your thoughts?

In unrelated news, who's going to buy Wilson the Mangroomer for Xmas?

I agree on the LDLT, and that House will stay away from the surgery until the very last moment, when he will rap on the OR window from the balcony as Wilson is about to be put under, and Wilson will look up and see him. And that will be the fade-to-black shot, of House standing and watching.

Or ... not. *g*

I hope they address Wilson's recovery, but you may be right about the six-week break thing. Bleh.

ETA that oh my God I am so sorry I looked at the Mangroomer. Yikes.

They skipped House's recovery after he was shot, so skipping Wilson's recovery would be par for the course for this show.

It would be wonderful if the last thing Wilson saw going under, and the first thing he saw when he woke again, was House. Be interesting to see what House really does, because I can imagine it going either way. He could be scared enough to be compelled to run away (see: Euphoria), or he could be scared enough to be compelled to be there, to keep an eye on Wilson in the belief that if anything does begin to go south, he'll catch it before the surgeons will.

The Global promo, apparently, shows that House's instinct is to run, because he's afraid Wilson will die. The stats from Wikipedia (and I clicked through on the citation to confirm) show that donor likelihood of death from the procedure is way below one percent. I wonder if the episode will bring that up or let us imagine that it's a higher likelihood.

Yeah, I heard all about that promo and I know House's first instinct will be to bolt, but I wonder if he'll overcome that (or fall prey to his control-freak compulsion instead; I'm not picky, and would take either one).

They do love to use hiatuses to avoid us getting to see men caring for each other. Heh.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this being a good episode. RSL said we get to see him do work that isn't paperwork or dealing with House! EEEEEEEEEE.

And he said we get to meet his assistant! That might be very interesting!

But yeah, I do think they avoid any overt male physical gestures of caring. Of course, the way they've constructed House's personality, I'm not sure I could see him initiating a physical gesture. Wilson ... if he were pushed far enough, I think he could do something, even if it was just a hand on House's shoulder. For all the subtext, the show comes up woefully short on actual gestures, and I wish just for once they'd throw the viewers a bone.

He hugged Alvie. He put his hand on Cameron's shoulder (yes, female, but still). He's touched Wilson a number of times, albeit briefly ... I don't know; I could see him doing something under the right circumstances.

I had this idea, you know, after surgery they do get patients up and walking as soon as possible. If House were the one to help Wilson out of bed that first time ...

ETA that we've also seen Wilson put his hand on House's back/shoulder in The Itch. And at the funeral, although that was to disguise his OHNOYOUDINT conversation at the casket.

Actually something pretty funny is on Greg Yaitanes' Twitter tonight:

Letitgo12 asked: Ok new Hilson shipper prove your worth. Why does Alvie get a hug, Lucas gets to hold House but Wilson gets no lovin'? WTF :)

Yaitanes: just wait

Hee!

I think that 1) they're just typical American men of their generation, they don't do physical shows of affection and 2) they're not warm cuddly guys.
Actually I just watched the first 3 minutes and noticed that Wilson put his hand on his friend's shoulder (before the medical emergency), it jumped out at me simply because Wilson doesn't usually touch people.

I noticed that too, and it really surprised me. I'm very curious now to see if they say how long he and Wilson have known each other -- if they were friends before the guy got leukemia.

My impression was that they didn't meet until Wilson treated him for leukemia, that the guy felt so grateful he decided Wilson was his friend and Wilson went with it. Of course I'm basing that on 60 seconds of video :) I hope they clarify it.
I did think how very Wilson it was that he wouldn't correct someone who called him Jim.
