deelaundry: man reading in an airport with his face hidden by the book (H/W Sims)

I had some time to kill in Target the other day, and while wandering past the baby aisle, I wondered what (in the "My Fathers' Son" ficverse) Wilson will be buying for baby gear for Jack.

The Graco SweetPeace Soothing Center looked frou-frou enough, but I decided Wilson will turn his nose up at it in favor of holding the baby himself.

He will, however, invest in the Graco Newborn Napper Pack n' Play- Melbourne, for use as a bassinet in the first few weeks, and then for his extended holiday trip to his parents' house (by which I mean the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot).

House's only purchases for Jack are this blanket, this book, this shirt, and a custom-made onesie that says "My Dad's a Fag" (which Wilson "accidentally" drops in the shredder).

Wilson doesn't like any of the strollers at Target; he's thinking he'll get the Stokke Xplory, which is very, very awesome, and also $1200. House about has a cow until Wilson reminds him how much he paid for the Stratocaster. House still thinks the guitar was the better deal.

House's present for Wilson? This, of course.

Wilson would invest in gender-neutral, wholesome, self-guided toys like building blocks that are non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and safe for very young children.

House would turn them into elaborate forts and fire little paper-clip cannons from the towers.

Exactly! I think Wilson tries to enforce a "no TV" rule too, and... yeah, that doesn't go so well. :D

That is too funny!!!
My neighbor has the Napper pack n' play but in a different color. It vibrates and everything, the kid loves it.

Everything's so fancy now, compared to when I bought baby stuff about ten years ago. Heh!

Hee, hee, fun! I don't think I'll write up the trip to see his parents (I'm not Jewish, so I'd probably get too many details wrong about the holidays), but I do know that House doesn't come. Partly because religious holidays and extended family aren't his thing, and partly to contribute to the cover-up that House and Wilson are friends, not co-parents. (But one weekend, House caves and drives to Wilson's parents' place anyway, as a surprise. :D)

Luminescence (http://deelaundry.livejournal.com/23371.html) is their first Christmas together. : )

I don't know exactly what they'll be, but I think there will probably be some more "expectant parent" fics between now and this August, which is when Jack is born in the MFS timeline.

It's such an awesome stroller! I think the Bugaboo is a little more popular these days, but ooh, the Stokke. It's got telescoping handles, too, so it's good for six-foot fathers. : ) I think Wilson chooses to have it in olive.

OKAY SEE. THIS IS WHY I WANT TO HAVE YOUR VIRTUAL BABIES.

So freaking perfect and awesome <3 There are some of the MFS-verse stories I haven't read 'cause of the fear of UNMITIGATED SADNESS but I clearly CLEARLY must read moar. And I am insanely excited that you'll be writing more soon <3

Because I shop at Target occasionally?

LOL -- babyfic/kidfic is made much easier when you've had a couple (and when you kind of treat Wilson like a self-insert, shhh, I didn't say that).

All the MFS-verse stories are at least a little bit sad, but Having an Issue (http://deelaundry.livejournal.com/12782.html) and Cabbages and Kings (http://deelaundry.livejournal.com/67839.html), much less so than in others.

Have you read [livejournal.com profile] simple__man's Church-verse? Very excellent kidfic.

Because you like domestic H/W as shamelessly as I do, for one thing <3

But but you see, the way you write it, it *works* I mean, CLEARLY Wilson would be beside himself with excitement over these purchases, and OMG, House would be so much fun with those alternative baby products. So so awesome <3

*reading those stories right now* OMG, love the title for Cabbages and Kings; any Lewis Carroll reference makes me happy.

You know, if I have, it was like one or two...does he do dialogue only ones? Because seriously, the only kidfic I ever really got into was your 'verse. I read a few a long time ago, and well. Maybe not so well-executed, but I have be meaning to check out his fics anyway.

Simple-Man has written dialogue-only and they are awesome! Road Trip, Brilliant, and Nine Months are dialogue-only "kidfic without the kid." Hee.

I WOULD TOTALLY BUY A "MY DAD'S A FAG" SHIRT FOR MY BOYFRIEND'S DOG

Also if I ever have to walk down a baby-product aisle I cross my two index fingers in front of myself to make the Anti-Bad Thing X of Doom or Something. Trufax lol.

I'm psychotic AND an asshole.

What a great icon! Hee, fun. ♥ ♥ ♥

I just found out you can get a parasol (http://www.allmodernbaby.com/Stokke-15670x-SKK1488.html) to fasten to the stroller. :D

XD XD XD

House gave Wilson his present at a staff meeting. Wilson's face when he realized what that was (because House had unpacked it all, put it together, put it in the little bag and thrown the box away) was epic. House LOLed for days.
