Courtesy of Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho, according to AP:

An undercover police officer in the airport ... issued a complaint that said the three-term senator had engaged in actions "often used by persons communicating a desire to engage in sexual conduct."

[...] According to the prosecutor's complaint, obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press, airport police Sgt. Dave Karsnia, who was investigating allegations of sexual conduct in airport restrooms, went into a stall shortly after noon on June 11 and closed the door.

Minutes later, the officer said he saw Craig gazing into his stall through the crack between the door and the frame.

After a man in the adjacent stall left, Craig entered it and put his roller bag against the front of the stall door, "which Sgt. Karsnia's experience has indicated is used to attempt to conceal sexual conduct by blocking the view from the front of the stall," said the complaint, which was dated June 25.

The complaint said Craig then tapped his right foot several times and moved it closer to Karsnia's stall and then moved it to where it touched Karsnia's foot. Karsnia recognized that "as a signal often used by persons communicating a desire to engage in sexual conduct," the complaint said.

Craig then passed his left hand under the stall divider into Karsnia's stall with his palms up and guided it along the divider toward the front of the stall three times, the complaint said.

The officer then showed his police identification under the divider and pointed toward the exit "at which time the defendant exclaimed `No!'" the complaint said.

Yeah, the 'left hand under the stall divider' is a move that I use all the time. It gets me a whole lotta fuzz.

Those of us who do not recognize the secret handshake of gayness would simply think his stall was out of toilet tissue. After all, the hand under the divider was the universal sign for that at my high school. :)

I don't think men generally request toilet tissue from another stall. Nor do women have anonymous sex in bathrooms...the two things may be related.

Actually, slate.com had a very interesting Q&A on those signs. I was kind of iffy myself as to the "confusion" issue until I read this bit:

Next, one of the men will slide his hand under the divider. This usually means he's inviting the other person to present himself, as if to say, "Show me what you got." The partner can respond by kneeling on the floor and presenting his penis or rear end underneath the divider. Or he can swipe his own hand under the divider, as if to say, "You go first." Some married men make a point of displaying their wedding band (like Sen. Craig allegedly did) to make themselves more alluring.

Which made me say: "Oh, that's why he used his left hand."

(It's here (http://www.slate.com/id/2173033/) by the way.

I agree that it sounds like a request for TP as opposed to sex. Either way, embarrassing to explain in court.

Probably I shouldn't be laughing quite so hard.

Well, now I know what I've been doing wrong all these years. No wonder I was never getting gay sex in airport toilets!

That seems overly complicated, unsubtle and a bit desperate... especially by the time you get to the hand signals. I wish they'd include details like this on the NPR news reports!

God, men are weird! women would just be; "Uh, hey. You wanna fuck?"

so...who did the 'research' for what constitutes gay public sex foreplay?

Gosh, the internet is so educational!

I want to know whether the defendant's "no" was as in "no, I don't do policemen" or "help, I've been caught"...

For some reason this article makes me think of Tritter using the bathrooms at PPTH and getting more than he expected.

Keith Olbermann's delivery of this story (voice and expression) on Monday night's Countdown was nothing less than genius, especially the part where Craig explained his foot touching the policeman's because "He had a wide stance."
