That makes me feel immensely cheerful on an overcast, chilly day. Pillory-verse = <3.

(I mean, <3 for the boys, not the actual pillory itself)

No love for the pillory itself, I agree. It's just such a cool thought, that hundreds of years ago people were acknowledging all kinds of different families. Awesome.

Was thinking about this over breakfast... Much as I love slash and UST because a) it's hot, b) it's a great engine for fanfic and c) it's hot, it is also nice than intimate platonic relationships can be recognized too. Hollywood loves its buddy movies, and so do I.

Coincidentally, I was talking to someone on the weekend about how Montaigne, the famous 16th French author, wrote an essay called "On Friendship" about how deeply fond he was of his very best buddy in all the world. I wonder if that was an allusion to an earlier medieval tradition? It's so heartwarming. (Of course, maybe Montaigne was actually in slashy denial, who knows? It's all good ;-)

Oh, man, that's some good prescience. It's always fun to realize you've made up stuff that exists.
