Date: 2007-08-28 07:16 pm (UTC)Coincidentally, I was talking to someone on the weekend about how Montaigne, the famous 16th French author, wrote an essay called "On Friendship" about how deeply fond he was of his very best buddy in all the world. I wonder if that was an allusion to an earlier medieval tradition? It's so heartwarming. (Of course, maybe Montaigne was actually in slashy denial, who knows? It's all good ;-)
