I was surprised he used the duckling reference too. I thought that was a fandom thing.

There are quite a few stories from fandom that I'd love to see on the screen, but it's my understanding the writers are supposed to stay away from fanfic. Someone was sued once, I believe, by a fanfic writer for stealing ideas, so they're not supposed to look.

It is probably safer for them NOT to look. But, there are definitely some fics I'd love to see written into the show.
