So... there was a meme about... fictional characters? Or something? I've forgotten, but [personal profile] nightdog_barks gave me a B, so here you go:

Olivia Benson - I am watching all the L&O:SVU episodes in order (why? no man can tell) and Benson is on my mind. I like her as a character, think she's interesting, and unique. She dressed like a guy in the first season, but I think all female detectives were dressing that way in that era (see also Melissa Leo from Homicide: Life on the Streets), so it's probably not a queer identity marker. Though I wouldn't say no to fanfic that explored that idea. She screamed in a perp's face in one episode in a way that made me feel she owned her anger. That was awesome. She also pushed a ton of my kink buttons by knocking Elliot around while he was duct-taped to a chair. Mmmmmmmm.

Tobias Beecher - While we're on the subject of partners to Chris Meloni characters, let's say hi to Beecher, fucked-up everyman dude. Weak in very interesting ways. Most awkward coming-out to a parent ever. While I'd wanted him to have a happy ending on Oz, I am not dissatisfied with the way things actually went down.

Bonnie Wilson - This is who I still think of as Wilson's type (the type he's drawn to, not necessarily the type that would be best for him): nice, loving, with hints of emotional fragility. If she hadn't met Wilson in Boston, I think House would have stomped her flat before she ever got to a first date.

Brian Kinney - Sexy as hell, good God. His final arc on Queer as Folk: US was fascinating, in that he was dragged kicking and screaming into growth, but he did it; he became a full, functioning adult who cared about more than just himself. AND THEN THE FUCKFACE TPTB TOOK IT AWAY AND SHOVED HIM BACK TO WHERE HE'D BEEN IN THE FIRST EP just so Michael could feel satisfied that everything in his world was where he wanted it to be. Fuckers.

Sam Beckett - Speaking of angry-making ends, Sam got so royally screwed by the end of Quantum Leap that I am still in apoplexy about it over nine years later. What happened to him offends my sense of what is decent and right about the universe.

Answering taiga13's question re: QL and Sam Beckett: No, you don't! It was the meanest ending for a show I can ever remember! Sam went back in time to save Al's marriage by telling Al's wife that Al was still alive, then Sam leaped. We were then told in writing that Al and his wife Beth were celebrating their anniversary and had 4 daughters. Then came the words that made me want to throw something through my TV:

"Dr. Sam Becket never returned home."

My 15-year-old son watched this episode with me last week and he couldn't believe creator/exec producer Donald Belisario did that to the character, either. He's either still leaping or simply disappeared.

This was one of the most innovative TV series ever and they did that to it! JUST WRONG!!! (And they even spelled Beckett wrong!)

Grrr I am getting mad about the ending again just writing this reply! OH SO AWFUL; BELISARIO, I HATE YOU. I screamed at the TV when those words appeared. They made the creative decision NOT to reward the character for five years of selfless service... AWFUL!!!!
