Just watched the play "8" on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_563213&v=qlUG8F9uVgM&feature=iv&src_vid=DcGbPqRqS8o#t=29m51s

AWESOME. Powerful words from real life, performed by so many fan favorites: Matt Bomer, George Takei (hilarious), Jane Lynch (scary), Chris Colfer (amazing), Matthew Morrison, Jamie Lee Curtis, John C. Reilly, George Clooney, Martin Sheen (AWESOME), Brad Pitt, Christine Lahti, et al. It's based on the most recent Prop 8 trial, and warning that they show some of the vile anti-gay ads from California. You need to watch those if you can, though, because it makes the ending of the play that much sweeter.

It's 90 minutes, available in full on YouTube only for a week. WATCH IT. And if you know who plays the two sons, please tell me because I couldn't find a full cast list.

Prop 8, that was about banning gay marriage right? Thanks for the rec, I'll be sure to watch it!

Jansen Panettiere was the boy who sounded like he had a retainer. Bridger Zadina was the other one.

There's a link to a full cast list here (http://www.afer.org/live/).

Thank you so much! I thought I had been through all of AFER's site about "8" but obviously not.

Excellent! I'm in love with Judge Walker. It was so cool at the end when Rob Reiner had both couples, the boys, and the attorneys from the real case come on stage. Kudos to the whole production.

I was living in a bubble during the Prop 8 campaign. Living near San Francisco, my mindset was that it was ridiculous and would never pass. The commercials pounding away about children's education were disgusting and ludicrous. Then a friend told me it was expected to pass. I didn't believe her until two days before the election, driving around town I saw numerous groups standing at busy intersections holding "Yes on Prop 8" signs. And it was raining! That's when I knew 8 would become a reality. :(

Oh, thanks for the link. I had even bookmarked a tweet with a link to a live-stream, but then forgot about it at the weekend (and was just a tiny bit angry with myself when I remembered yesterday)

I started watching and almost gagged on the first ad (I know you had warned, but uh). The fact that hiding the truth from children is viewed as laudable really upset me. Great rec! I hope I can manage to download it, I always 'get' English better the second or third time round.

ETA: I've now watched it all, it was actually pretty easy to understand and incredibly moving. This is a part of history. I am sure it will one day shown in schools. I hope that in forty years the issue will be as moot as interracial marriages is now (and yes, I know that interracial couples still have problems, but the question whether hey can legally marry is moot). Thank you!
