[livejournal.com profile] bironic came over yesterday and was her usual lovely self, which I very much needed.

She and Mr. L and I mainlined Community eps and laughed our butts off. Very witty and media-referential and awesome. Emotionally engaging, too: "Introduction to Film" made me tear up. I got what Abed was doing way before the other characters, and it still made me tear up.

In other media news: I am getting into Glee pretty heavily. Heard second-hand that the fandom very often doesn't get it, so I probably won't get fannish with the show, but yeah.

1: Community is the best show, we should probably talk about the genius of Abed at length.

2: TALK TO ME ABOUT GLEE.

3: This is a very exciting post.

We should talk about Abed at length, yes. I need to get caught up on episodes but even just from now he is awesome. Did you see "Introduction to Film"? Britta tries to get all "I will save him" and Abed totally schools her. ♥ ♥ ♥

I can't talk about Glee; I can only just listen to you.

Is Critical Film Analysis the one where he makes the movie about his parents?

Abed schools Britta a lot, it's lovely. The creator is autistic; he knows and writes in things I've never seen anywhere else about what it's like, sharp and stark and then quickly distracted from by a joke or an advancement in the plot. It takes my breath away.

Also, Troy/Abed. Just wait.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons is among my favorites, but this year's Remedial Chaos Theory is a case study in how to do alternate realities.

(Oh, and Glee is a show I sometimes love and sometimes fastforward through entire subplots because it makes me frustrated.)

[livejournal.com profile] crown_of_weeds got me into Glee. She demonstrated how it's a show that is layered deeply enough to withstand critical analysis. It's not exactly real life but it is an intricately conceived universe unto itself.

I haven't made it to "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" yet but am looking forward to it!

Hi, you!

Someone recommended "Community" to me on Friday. I'm dithering over it. So many shows to watch (and books to read) already, but you are pushing me toward the edge... ;)

[livejournal.com profile] m_supercomputer was the one who pimped it to me... and I am very, very grateful. Abed makes a lot of 80s film/media refernces -- in fact, Breakfast Club was a major theme of the pilot. In other words, relevant to our interests!

The first season of Community is on Netflix, maybe I should watch it.
