Excuse the random comment, but I can see you're an Oz fan, and I've been wondering about this series for a while... if you don't mind me asking, what's the m/m like? Is it worth watching just for this aspect, and is it enough to counteract the ultra-violence? I've been wanting to see this show for a while, but since I'm going to have to buy it if I want to see it, I want to get a feel for it first, and you seem like a good person to ask. I have a slashy friend who stopped watching it because it got too violent, so I'm still uncertain about it :)
Hmm. This will sound rude, but it really isn't: Do you like romance, or do you like seeing guys' dicks? On Oz, it's much more about the latter: you see a lot of guys' dicks (some of the guys are very hot; some aren't), and there's significant non-consensual m/m and significant violence. The one m/m love story is Beecher/Keller and that is very screwed up - there are some hot scenes with them together, but they also spend a lot of time yakking to other people about loving each other. (Including worst timing for coming out to your dad EVER.)
There are also compelling storylines that are dramatic and not too violent, separate from the m/m, so there's a lot to recommend the series. But if what you're primarily going for is m/m action, you'd probably be better off with Queer as Folk, US version. (UK version might be good too, but I don't know it.) Great m/m, romance - yeah, the acting's not as good but Brian/Justin, yummy.

Hee - I'd say, bit of one, bit of the other. I enjoyed the UK QAF, but never really took to the US version. It just seemed a little... fluffy. (Not that the UK one was particularly gritty, but it was 'new' at the time, if that makes sense). I've been avoiding recaps, but that might be a good idea, to at least read a couple. And thanks for the vid leads as well! I'm definitely checking those out :)
