Hell, yeah; that was awesome.

Oh, you were expecting me to say something more? Maybe tomorrow.

Thank goodness I happened to flip on the TV at 10:00 in case the DVR was cutting off next episode's promo -- because that was the latest starting episode of House ever. Anybody know what happened?

There was a delay on account of baseball.

Also: I am very very very ridiculously happy.

I am so glad that Wilson owned it this time. Punched House, which House had coming, so: owned his anger. Invited House to dinner: owned the choice he's making. Took charge instead of letting himself be worn down, wheedled, etc.

I loved it so much I cheered. Loudly.

Wilson owning his choices was awesome. It was what I wanted to happen in "Birthmarks." Yessssss. And House put in effort. JOY JOY JOY. But he didn't bend himself backward or twist himself in knots -- he gave what he could give and didn't flounder trying to give something he couldn't*.

\o/

*Which was one of the biggest problems with his relationship with Cuddy, in which he kept trying to figure things out instead of listening to Cuddy or seeing what was in front of him. But anyway.

I thought it was very, very significant that in House's most desperate moment, he said, "Wilson needs these lungs." Not the patient. Wilson.

And Wilson admitting that what he really wants is a steak? Yes. With House, he can be who he is and not who he imagines he's supposed to be. Since Amber died, House seems to be the only one who can even partly repair Wilson's broken connection with himself.

That scene played to me as House being willing to lay everything on the line for Wilson's sake, not just from guilt or penance but from need and love. And he'd have done it whether or not it meant he got Wilson back; he had no expectations at that point.

It was something in the way HL used his posture -- resignation in addition to the determination to do whatever it took. Amazing.

Well, yes, but I also think Wilson's no-red-meat diet was sincere* and good for him, not an affectation. The issue for Wilson is to find the balance. House is always going to be the little devil on his shoulder, tempting him to do what's fun and immediately gratifying. He should give in to that, but in balance with the things that are generous and giving and considerate of others.

For Wilson, his healthy whole is not going to be just like House. And he will have to (does have to) put up with House's critiques and criticisms of actions that contribute to Wilson's healthy whole but go against some of House's principles of englightened self-interest.

*If he wasn't just pretending to have that diet -- he's done that in the past.

Nah, Wilson's never going to be just like House, nor would I ever want him to be. He has that great big heart and that's always going to be who he is. But giving himself permission to have what he wants sometimes -- that's something House helps him do.

Also, I too suspect the "no red meat" thing was an on-the-spot lie because he was angry with House. He'd been about to accept the sandwich.

House had already told Wilson that even if Wilson's patient didn't get the lungs, some patient would, so House's job would be done... then was surprised when Wilson didn't see things the same way.

House wanted Wilson to have what Wilson wanted. ♥ He wanted Wilson to feel success as much as House felt success. ♥ ♥ ♥

YES. Thanks for putting it into words I hadn't found. All this; and further, from House's posture and expression, I felt that House didn't think this would win Wilson back, but wanted desperately to do this for him anyway. Out of love rather than an expectation of a reward for himself.

That might well just be me stanning, but it was what I saw and felt.

Oh, and I also thought it was interesting that the epiphany moment was not only triggered by Wilson, but triggered by Wilson doing something so essentially Wilson-like as organizing a birthday party for a coworker.

House needs Wilson -- in no small part because Wilson's nature brings such a needed perspective to House's life.

I'm going to admit I was disgruntled at first at the whole "We're not friends, House" thing, but then.

It was definitely in-character for Wilson to do that, but yes, I understand why you were eyerolling so hard.

:-D

Oh, show. Why such a hold on my -- oh yeah. Wilson. And House. And HOUSE AND WILSON.

I want to re-watch this one and am now sad I didn't record it.

I didn't love most of it, but the House/Wilson scenes were epic. "My Heart Will Go On" - ASDFGHJKL

House is SO MUCH better at love with Wilson than he was with Cuddy. You know he wouldn't use a goddamn b and spell out I lobe you. I really, really, REALLY want this to be the last season and they make out like teenagers by Ep. 18.

House has always been better at love with Wilson. The things he had a hard time making himself do for Cuddy, he does for Wilson with mimimum angst (on House's part; sometimes Wilson's got to go through angst before House will bend).

The first two episodes of this eason have been good. Not "best ever" episodes, but good. On the right track. We'll see how next week's episode goes. It's yet again another "altruism = illness" plot, but the POTW is Wentworth Miller, which make sfor a nice prison-meta in my head. : )
