There's something I'm not getting here. I know that a small but vocal group of Americans have been claiming that Obama wasn't born in the U.S. and so he can't be president. But why should anyone care about what Donald Trump thinks? That's what I don't get. Why should his opinion matter on anything?

He's supposedly 'running for president,' and the media here are currently repeating his every inane pronouncement because he's actually the front-runner for the Republican nomination right now.

No, seriously.

Of course, it's 19 months until the actual election, and Trump almost-certainly won't make it past the stage of the process where they have to make financial disclosures (the man let a *casino* go bankrupt, which is actually kind of impressive), and he won't want to do the work and organizing that getting the nomination would require. But unless he loses support even among Republicans quickly, I'd say the American media will be pretending to take him seriously until at least...June or so.
