deelaundry: man reading in an airport with his face hidden by the book (Default)
[personal profile] deelaundry
Had a great time last week toodling around New Jersey with [livejournal.com profile] hithah on our PPTH/Kal Penn/RSL tour of looking at things and imagining what went/goes/will go on there. *\o/*

Yes, that is my favorite kind of touring around, and no, I don't expect anyone else to agree with me how AWESOME it is. Except [livejournal.com profile] hithah, of course.

We stayed at a hotel that's across from the Forrestal Campus of Princeton University, which is undoubtedly where PPTH is located in House-land (in spite of the building that has the PPTH exterior being on the main campus in real life). Look, they're even building a new extension:

Photobucket
The sign says "University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro."

On Day 1 and Day 2, I graciously let Hithah take the pictures (OK, really I forgot my camera), but on Day 3 Hithah had left for the airport already, so I got behind the lens for a particularly self-indulgent photoshoot.

Marquand Park! Four years ago, I set my very first Housefic in this locale based solely on internet research. Now here it was in person... and it was lovely.

Oh, a gorgeous park. If you're in the area, stop by for a picnic, or to teach your kid to ride a bike, or even just for a nice walk.

Photobucket

Here's a sunny part of the park you could get married in:

Or a shady glen also appropriate for that:

With a tree carved by doting lovers over the years:

There are also paths through secluded wooded areas. No public restrooms (of the kind, ehem, "used" by House & Wilson in my fic), but very peaceful all the same.

It's gorgeous! There was a small playground as well, and enough room so that you could be near the playground or not, as you pleased. It didn't hurt that the weather was beautiful when I was there.

I took a couple of pictures of interesting trees, too, but figured this post was long enough.

That park looks like it could be the park that House escaped too in "One Day, One Room."

It does, doesn't it? Except... did that park have a river next to it? This one doesn't have any water features in it (pond, creek, etc.).

We drove by "Cameron's river" too. That was fun.

What a delightful looking place. The park looks stunning.

*looks wistfully at the cloudy, grey sky outside* Sigh. The sun seems to be taking a break from it's duties over here.

It was beautiful. The weather being nice certainly helped. This has been a long, hot, humid summer for us on the US East Coast so far, but the day I was at Marquand Park was perfect.

It was very fun! We spent a lot of our time outside Princeton, but did get to see the art museum and have a student-led tour.

We saw the Wilson pool, which is quite obviously the location in House!land where House splashed in the fountain in the first ep of S3. Heh.

You were lucky, the last few days have been very nice.
Turner construction is also building a hospital in Voorhees, NJ. I worked there for a couple of weeks and I'm not sure if I mentioned it here but the rooms had glass doors like the PPTH.
I wonder if the new Princeton Plainsboro hospital will have glass rooms too.

I don't think I knew that you'd worked on a PPTH-esque hospital. Awesome!

I was lucky about the weather; this summer has been such a scorcher but that day was great.

I like how your mind works, Dee! Just as I used to love looking at the plans that you would post for the various houses that House and Wilson could live in together :-) It's funny, I love imagining the domestic life of my favourite fictional characters.

I remember that first story like it was *looks back in time dreamily* yesterday! You really need to someday write more in that 'verse :-)

So fun. Eeee!

I'm not sure what else I could write in the 'verse. I've got proposal, registry, bachelor party, ceremony, honeymoon, and parents come to visit. This isn't a 'verse where they have kids, so that's out. Hm.

You're welcome for the pics -- it was too pretty not to share.

The fic is kind of silly, but I liked it enough to write three prequels and two sequels. : )

Prequels:

The Registry (http://deelaundry.livejournal.com/2189.html), PG, dialogue only, 7/06
Bachelor Party (http://deelaundry.livejournal.com/40559.html), R, ficlet, 3/07

Sequels:
On the Way (http://deelaundry.livejournal.com/176513.html), R, 12/08

Hee! That must be kind of surreal, having written that fic (mmm) based only on research and finally seeing it.

and no, I don't expect anyone else to agree with me how AWESOME it is.

Yes, I just toured Washington DC because it was the US capital. Nothing to do with the FBI building, the war memorials, Crystal City or indeed anything to do with X-Files. Not at all *g*

It wasn't surreal to see it -- more like, oh, phew, I didn't mess it up. :D

There's a coffee shop in Baltimore that used to get way more traffic than any other, simply because it's across from the building used to shoot exteriors for the show Homicide.
