Tonight's episode was OK; enjoyable as a one-off. The working-mom-related subplots continue to not annoy the hell out of me. \o/ But why in the world doesn't Cuddy have an assistant? The employee in scrubs (nurse? clinic manager?) who helped Cuddy out ought to ask for extra pay because there is no way that kind of stuff is in her actual job description. Anyway, that's not the one thing.

The one thing is: In the beginning, when Lucas was a "two-minute man," what was up with Cuddy saying she was now going to have to go to work frustrated? Lucas has a tongue, doesn't he? I can see he's got fingers, at least. Intercourse might be her favorite way to orgasm, but there are other methods. No reason Lucas couldn't at least try to satisfy her with something besides the mighty penis. WTF, sexist show. WTF.

I think the implication was that she didn't have the time for him to bring her off before going to work, no matter what method they might have used.

I can see that implication, sure, but then why did she agree to delay her departure by ten minutes in the first place? Didn't they say the sex was going to help Cuddy relax? So why would she leave without getting the relaxation? I thought the scene reinforced the sexist stereotype of women's pleasure only coming from the man's penis.

But I can also see where other people might not see it the way I did.

I think it had been more than ten minutes by then and what we saw wasn't anything to do with penises in particular, but rather to do with Cuddy's life, where the hospital comes before her own pleasure, and her attempts to carve out bits of selfish time don't always work out.

It had been less than ten minutes (I had been watching their clock for reasons of my own). I get how you see it the way you do, but I still see it the way that I do. Which is all right.

It's actually an interesting point that you raised. I must not have been watching the clock as well as I thought I was.

I'm liking Lucas less all the time as he continues to raise all kinds of emotional manipulator/creepy possible abuser red flags to me. I get what you're saying, yet I'm way more disturbed that the show seems to accept him perpetrating serious property damage and doing stuff like the grab bar "prank" that could have killed House -- all because he has presumed to be fighting the woman's battles for her, without even asking how she actually felt about it. And now he steals the nanny's cell phone. And ... she's OKAY with all this? I'm certainly not.

I kind of thought she decided she was running too late to stay and let him make the attempt, which I read him as being willing to make, but she had to get to work.

And that's the only way in which I'll defend him in this episode, because his other behaviors (taking away her line of communication?!!) creeped me right the hell out.

He looked apologetic to me for shutting off the home phone's ringer, but there really was no excuse for him taking the nanny's phone. Weird.

The sex, well -- my displeasure is not so much with Lucas himself, but with the producers of the show. The scene, to me, reinforced the sexist stereotype of women's pleasure only coming from the man's penis - and of male orgasm being the endpoint of a hetereosexual sexual encounter. Dumb.

But, like I said, the portrayal of a working mother's life continues to ring fairly true to me, so that is something awesome they're doing.

He didn't even know/remember what she was talking about. She was there, facing away from him, and said "Okay, you can do it" or "Okay, you can try" or something along those lines. And he said "What?"

That part was definitely fail. Seemed pretty obvious she was talking to herself about the huge challenge she was going to face that day.

Lucas is pretty much oblivious to anything other than what he wants, and his attempts to endear himself come off to me as clumsy and self-serving, not actually considerate.

Not obvious to me. I thought she was reconsidering and was going to give Lucas another chance, and then when he was totally oblivious she left.

You may be right about that, in fact. This whole episode went in such a mad rush that I'd need to re-watch it to get a better handle on it, and I didn't record it.

I just ... I thought he was reaching for her, to try and do something about the situation, but she got out of bed and wouldn't let him because she was stressed about the time. But I may not be remembering that correctly.

I'm way more bothered by other stuff he does, which is not to say that Dee isn't right too. It's just ... the blabbing to House, and the phones, and the dangerous and vandalous "pranks" -- there are many layers to the Fail Dip.

I like Lucas, and I think he's a lot like House. Maybe I'm giving him a pass on some of the creepy stuff because it seems like something House might do? I don't know.

It'll make me roll my eyes if he turns out to be evil, because this show really hates its happy characters, doesn't it?

I get what you mean about Lucas being a lot like House in these things, but perhaps because we never see much of a soul in him, I'm creeped out.

House will go to considerable lengths (including hiring Lucas) to try to keep the people he loves in his life, but he won't go fighting someone else's battles; he considers that people are mature enough to take care of their problems themselves. Lucas didn't give that respect to Cuddy, and he destroyed House and Wilson's apartment, risked serious injury to House and then tripped him in public, all based on that presumption that it was somehow his place to exact vengeance on her behalf.

Maybe that's why he creeps me out and House doesn't. Or maybe it's his shifty little eyes. It's kind of fun to think about why I find him creepy and House not so much.

He reminds me of House in some ways. And I totally agree that some of the stuff he's done is the exact same stuff that House might do. House can be an absolute bastard at times, and I think people forget that aspect of his character.

I also thought it was odd the way House went from being ready to whack Lucas with his cane for tripping him in the last episode, to hanging out with him on a stakeout.

I wondered about that stakeout too. I think House's nosiness overcomes his dislike. Lucas is interesting, particularly now that he's dating Cuddy.

She had a couple of assistants in S1, didn't she? I remember some fresh-faced young things. But none of them could cope, and they all seemed to be straight out of MBA kindergarten.

She did have a couple in S1, and if I recall correctly, they were young.

She actually needs assistants in two different ways: She needs an Assistant Dean of Medicine who could help with the higher-level work, including keeping her department heads working together well (not that she can't do it; just that she shouldn't have to do it completely by herself) and she needs an administrative assistant to help with scheduling, correspondence, etc.

At the risk of dragging too much real world into this, most of the hospitals in my neck of the woods (Boston) have had to enact massive budget cuts in the last year, and unfortunately, that type of admin staff tends to be first in line for layoffs. (Personally, I think it's because personal assistants are still seen as a bit of a "luxury," which is wrong on multiple levels.)

House's head would explode if she did that; at least with Lucas she's trying to at least attempt to "have it all" with Lucas, the baby, and the high-powered job. If she went out and got someone and paid that person to file paperwork, schedule appointments, and have sex with her, the level of pranksmanship that House would unleash to get rid of that person would be epic.

Not a bad episode. I just found it a little on the boring side. It was nice to see Cuddy of old back though, showing some steel and determination from the earlier seasons.

Apart from that it was all a bit...meh.

Episode was entertaining, nothing compared to Wilson, but I was hooked enough and Cuddy wasn't annoying, she was close to her old self actually which was cool.

But LAME ENDING IS LAME! WTF was up with the "YEEEEEES!"? That's gotta be the cheesiest thing this show has ever seen. Too bad, it could have fallen in the 'good episode' category without that.

I found the episode boring as hell, disappointing, lame; but what really bugged me was that Cuddy and Lucas didn't even undress during their sex scene. LOL! So he came in his pants? Did anyone see a wet spot? And yeah, I agree: The scene does reinforce the usual sexist stereotype.
