Back to Keirsey
Dec. 17th, 2009 10:57 amI've been thinking about Keirsey (Myers-Briggs) personality typing again.
Wilson and I are fellow Guardians, which goes quite some way to explaining why I'm so cross when he's dismissed and belittled.
House is over in the Rational group. Check out these quotes from some of his fellow Rationals! Awesome.
"I have taken all of knowledge for my province."
Francis Bacon
"Ideas do not have to be correct in order to be good; it's only necessary that, if they do fail, they do so in an interesting way."
Robert Rosen
"It is not enough to have a good mind; the main thing is to use it well."
Rene Descartes (Mastermind Rational)
"Never express yourself more clearly than you think."
Neils Bohr (Mastermind Rational)
"What I cannot create, I cannot understand."
Richard Feynman (Inventor Rational)
"The progress of science is the discovery at each step of a new order which gives unity to what had seemed unlike."
Jacob Bronowski
"... and asking me what profit it was to have stripped myself of the hopes and consolations of the mass of mankind? To which my only reply was and is -- Oh devil! truth is better than much profit."
Thomas Henry Huxley (Mastermind Rational)
And one that speaks to me so much, I'm likely to put it on my profile:
"Error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it."
Thomas Jefferson (Architect Rational)
[And this quote explains why I'm OK with people who don't like Wilson, if they don't like him because of his actual annoying qualities.]

Date: 2009-12-17 04:37 pm (UTC)No time to take that test for me today, but I'd lay $20 on it that I'd come up as an Artisan (kind of a big DUH there, right?).
Except, today I'm being all Responsible and non-Artisany, at least for now, because laundry and dishes must be done before anything else.

Date: 2009-12-17 05:18 pm (UTC)One quote from that second page: "Life is not likely to be extremely easy for the ISFP, because they take life so seriously, but they have the tools to make their lives and the lives of those close to them richly rewarding experiences." So true! ♥ ♥ ♥
I'm a Guardian-Inspector (ISTJ) - although I sometimes test as a Rational. Wilson, I am convinced, is deliberately written as a Guardian-Provider (http://www.keirsey.com/handler.aspx?s=keirsey&f=fourtemps&tab=2&c=provider) (ESFJ). (Another page on ESFJ, which includes an explanation of why an ESFJ's moral compass can sometimes be wonky is here (http://www.personalitypage.com/ESFJ.html).)

Or ... let's not, shall we? For the sake of the hypothetical kids, if nothing else.

Are you aware that you can get drummed out of the Wilson!mania union for statements like that?

Date: 2009-12-18 04:19 am (UTC)Heh, the careers they list with any personality typing are never that helpful. When I took Myers-Briggs early in my career, the choices they listed for my designated personality type (ISTJ) were all so boring! And none of them were leadership roles at all, nothing to strive for. "You would make a good data entry clerk." Well, yes, I would, but does that mean I need to be a clerk my entire career?

Date: 2009-12-20 09:40 am (UTC)The thing about higher education is particularly interesting, since I've always preferred subjects with absolute answers, or at least answers that are definitely right or wrong, and the subjects I took (IT and computing) fit that.

Date: 2009-12-20 02:01 pm (UTC)Me too! I liked how they phrased it that subjects that require abstraction are "likely to be a chore." I was able to do fine in calculus; I just found it annoying and uninteresting. Algebra, on the other hand, I continue to be deeply in love with today.

You are such a marvelous person. I'm sorry I haven't been around much lately.

Date: 2009-12-21 05:25 pm (UTC)I did this for the SGA team a while back and had some interesting discussions about it. House and Wilson are easier to type, I think, to which I could add something about consistency of character writing, but I won't...
I really should get caught up on House, shouldn't I? With my other shows either over or unavailable (curse my broken netbook), it'd be a good time to hire the DVDs. Hmmmm...
Fascinating food for thought, thanks :)
