"Quickly, bring me a beaker of wine, so that I may wet my mind and say something clever." --Aristophanes

- [livejournal.com profile] hannahrorlove gave me two books, A History of the World in Six Glasses and On Bullshit. Thank you, Hannah! Haven't finished the first but I liked the above quote a lot. :D I've finished the second and thought it was marvelous. It helped clarify what makes me angry about certain people, why I have no respect for them at all. Should do a whole post about that.

- Has anyone done an awesomely cheese-tastic post-S5 House/Cuddy fanvid to Hoobastank's "The Reason" yet? The song seems kind of tailor-made for it, particularly if you went the "purposefully badvid" route, like the SGA McShep vid to "Jolene."

I found a reason for meeeeeeeee
To change who I used to beeeeeeeee
A reason to start over newwwwwwww
And the reason is you

ETA: On YouTube, I found five House/Cameron vids to the song, one House/Chase, and one House/Cuddy, but it's from February.

- There was going to be a third bullet point here, but I've forgotten it.

PS. I just thought of the phrase "screaming into an empty sea." Eh? Wouldn't an empty sea be the saddest thing ever?

It's excellent! It's written by a philosophy professor who makes a case for what "bullshit" means. There could definitely be other definitions, too, but the one he writes about was very meaningful for me and helped me think about it and myself more clearly. Awesome!

"Screaming into an empty sea" is so evocative, I can visualize it precisely.

Sounds like I must get that book now.

On Bullshit is very short -- more an essay than anything else. I definitely recommend it.

The books sound delightful.

That song, though? I used to hear it, like, five times a day -- and I didn't like it much to start with. Something about the whiny sound of the vocals, I think. Gah.

But that's just me.

Yeah, the song is pretty annoying; that's what could make a vid with it so cheesy. :D

...Wait. Jolene by Dolly Parton, or Jolene by Cake? Cause I immediately assumed one, but it suddenly seems more sensical to me that it's the other.

It's The White Stripes covering the Dolly Parton version. You can download the vid off the vidder's page here (http://zoe.vaportraces.com/vids.html). It used to be on Imeem but something happened there.

"ἀλλ᾽ ἐξένεγκέ μοι ταχέως οἴνου χοᾶ,
τὸν νοῦν ἵν᾽ ἄρδω καὶ λέγω τι δεξιόν."

That's your quote in Greek --just in case you wondered what the original looked like. ;P

On Bullshit sounds intriguing.
