[livejournal.com profile] magie_05 lured me into the Five Words meme: Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you. (Please note: If you simply wish to comment on something I've said but don't want to participate in the meme, that is fine. I will only give you five words if you specifically comment with 'Words!')

The five words she gave me are: words, intellectual, 'Overboard,' gayness, and trust.

WORDS are such marvelous things. I adore them. "Read the dictionary for fun" adore them. [livejournal.com profile] bironic gave me the book The Secret Life of Words, but I haven't quite finished it because I don't give a damn about the author's narrative; I just want to know cool facts about words. (This is not a criticism of the book, merely my personal quirk.)

INTELLECTUAL. I have clearly been infected by today's pop-culture terror of "elitism," because my immediate reaction to having this word associated with me was defensiveness.

But then I chilled out and visited my good friend dictionary.com and was comforted by this definition of the word: "A person who engages in academic study or critical evaluation of ideas and issues."* COOL BEANS! I'll take that.

'OVERBOARD' is the most snuggly movie of all time. Funny, warm, silly, touching. And Gregory House can't hold a candle to Joanna Stayton when it comes to disdainful sarcasm.

GAYNESS (in the sense of happiness, hotness, AND civil rights) has been important to my life for a very long time. I can't possibly sum up what it means to me, except to say that it's all positive. Homophobia, in addition to being hurtful and terrible, is utterly and completely stupid, without any merit of reason whatsoever.

TRUST. Being trustworthy is far more important to me than being likable. I'd prefer to be both, but it hurts far more to lose your trust in me than to lose friendliness.

The very bad one with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell is what I'm talking about. ♥ ♥ ♥ It's not good, not by any stretch of the imagination, but it is snuggly.

Your words are:

Invention

Horace

OFC

Drabble-linkage

There's a reason I don't have children. They wouldn't have lived long enough to get to the snuggly stage. *evil grin*
