I feel happily validated in my depiction of House playing Bridezilla in Dyeing Changes Everything by the new Stargate Atlantis fic Hotel Atlantis by [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve, in which Rodney McKay is -- wait for it -- a wedding planner. It shouldn't work, but it does.

*smug*

On a totally different subject, once a year, for about two days only, pollen overwhelms me and I get a massive sinus headache. The past two days were when it hit me this year, and this morning as Mr. L was talking to me about it, I had a huge bout of empathy for House.

Not because of the pain (I know this is nowhere close to House's pain), but because of Mr. L's harangue. "You need to learn to manage this better... blah blah... you need to get to the doctor and come up with a strategy for dealing with this... blah blah... it really inconveniences me when you're laid up like this... blah blah blah blah."

The whole time I'm inwardly rolling my eyes and thinking, "It's only two days; it's not as big a deal as you're making out to be; I can deal with it on my own; sheesh, it's not your body; my pain 'incoveniences' you, how nice."

Nothing Mr. L said was wrong, per se, but it annoyed the heck out of me.

And then made me think of House and Wilson.

This is what guys do. Why do guys do this? Mr. N does it too, so I know exactly what you're talking about, and it drives me crazy.

I have to admit, though, he's doing it less as we both get older. Maybe he's afraid in these menopause days that I'd snap and no jury in the land would convict me. Heh.

Mr. L feels the need to fix everything. Sigh. He was haranguing because he cares, but foof. Ah well. A little air conditioning and a few drugs, and I'm feeling much better. : )

A/C and drugs worked wonders! Now I'm about to venture out into the land of yellow-green spores (aka, outside); I'm hoping the drugs will tide me over until I can get back home.

Good thing this only happens once a year. I would have been ok up until the part when he said you being laid up inconveniences him.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

it really inconveniences me when you're laid up like this...

Someone needs to be hit with a clue-by-four. *sends Leela*

Hope you're feeling better soon, dear.

You sound like a combination of my mom (nasty allergies) and someone who married my mom (crazy-nagging SO).

I hope you're feeling better soon!

Mr. L is a hoot. He says things without thinking, you know? Thanks!

It's not untrue; it's just unhelpful. LOL

A/C + drugs have helped so much! Thanks.

Mr. L's allergies are much worse than mine, which is part of the reason he thinks he has the solution for me. : )

Did you get some good Wilson-centric fics read the other day?

Yeah, I did, thanks. It improved my mood to the nth degree. (I had math tutoring this morning, so now everything is all calculus-y.)

My dog gets awful allergies. He's actually bled from multiple places from scratching too hard. It's scary :(

My husband and #2 Kid have the same thing. You have hit on the best remedy.
My husband has this cool thing he does. He smiles and nods when people say dumb things. I have seen 300 lb bikers grab hi hand shake it and slap his back in response.
When his allergies make him a growling monster I smile and nod and get him iced tea. I often think I should push it to him with a stick.
Mr. L has it easy, at least you're pleasant.

I'm not sure why but AUs really seem to work for SGA. It must because of the Vegas ep. I'm normally not a fan, but seem to love them in SGA world. Have you read the one where Rodney is a chef that creates the fake/real food for photo shots? Brillant.

Total crack but also very good

And Rodney as a photographer--a bit too sappy at times but still good.

I read a lot of AUs when I was still getting through the series and wanting to avoid being spoiled. I have read the project Runway one and it was too good for words. Enjoy!

Mr Laundry is a Bad Man and should be more sympathetic.

I hope you're feeling much better by now.

The thing is, when people offer advice, they often mean well. And they often say stuff that annoys the heck out of the party that has the affliction ('your pain inconveniences me') not to be irritating, but either to mask their worries or to try and convince one to change stuff for their sake, even of they don't want to for their own sake. I'm sure that, just like Wilson, Mr. L felt bad for you, helpless, worried, name it all. And I'm ALSO sure that, because you were feeling bad already, like House, all you wanted to do was hit him over the head with something large.

Eh... I was gonna make a point here, but now I'm not sure what it is anymore.

Anyway - yeah, been there done that ("you know, Hib, maybe you could take less painkillers if you only tried") and yeah, it's annoying & tiring.

Oh yes! My point! My point is this: people who are not feeling what the person that's feeling bad is feeling should keep their advice and opinions, however well meant, to themselves, thanks very much, and just be supportive and nice (and honest: when you worry about me, just say so...).

This comment is way too long. Apologies.

Three cheers for living in an age with awesome anti-allergy drugs!!!

As a year-round generic-Claritin addict, I can sympathize. The only good thing about sinus headaches is that they do respond to Advil (or your analgesic of choice.) But a few years ago I got hit twice in one weekend with such ferocious headaches that I couldn't walk, much less get to the pills. I called my doctor who told me to switch the Claritin to the mornings and take 1-2 Benadryl at night. I stopped taking it when I realized I was becoming dependent on it to sleep but these last few weeks -- I've shown admirable self-control by not taking a whole bottle of it every night.

I hope your drugs are working as well as mine are.
