Amazon.com has apparently decided that anything that is in one of its Gay or Lesbian categories (other than Kindle) will now be classified as "adult" and left out of rankings and certain searches, no matter what the book's actual content is.

So, policy books such as Unfriendly Fire are not easy to find, and do not show up in book-sales rankings, but heterosexual romances, even those with raunchy sex scenes, do show up.

What also shows up? The Gay Man's Kama Sutra, which is filed in the category "Books > Bargain Books > Health, Mind & Body."

"Huge boo" is an excellent way to put it. If you search for "homosexuality" on Amazon's home page now, the first book you get is on preventing homosexuality. WTF?

WTF Amazon! I just tried it at amazon.ca. When I searched "homosexuality" the first book that came up was 'Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You' by Peter Cameron, a novel listed as one of the Best of 2007 for Teens and Tweens and #39,839 on the Amazon Sales Rank. When I searched "heterosexuality" the first book that came up was 'The Invention of Heterosexuality' by Jonathan Ned Katz, who argues that heterosexuality is only a social construct and is not listed in the Amazon Sales Ranks. That struck me as funny.

I just read an article where they said it was a mistake, and it mentioned that social networking resources like Twitter brought attention to it. so good job informing us on here! :D

They said it was a mistake, and they sent apologetic emails to people who complained. I'd be interested in knowing how they're going to prevent something similar in the future.
