Which we already knew, but here's why I say that for this episode:

"[Amber] was the only person I've loved for a long time."

LIAR! Liar, liar, pants on fire.

Part of me wants canon slash, and the other part of me wants this show to ACKNOWLEDGE THAT FRIENDS CAN LOVE EACH OTHER. Yes, even two dudes! Even two dudes who are not related through biology or adoption and not sleeping together!

What in the freaking world do you call the level of intimacy and devotion that House and Wilson have, if not love?

He's also a thief who re-gifts, but that's another story all together.

I'm with you - acknowledge that friends can love each other! Even if it's in their own screwed up way, make it obvious enough that we don't have to fanwank it. And make sure they're both conscious and present for it.

Absolutely...I Love my best girl friend to pieces!
So I know exactly what you mean!

PLUS while we are on the topic of Wilson lying...
This is what I didnt get...

Didn’t Wilson move away…come back and get a new apartment…? Why did he say he still lives in Amber’s apartment and everything is where it was?

*to play devils advocate*

What if it is a true statement? I mean when is the last time we saw Wilson act liked he did in fact *love* House? (just as his best friend)... before Twitter? -- that was at least more than a year (or two?) ago show time so that is a long time to not have loved anyone.

I dunno if you take the hypothesis that Wilson doesn't love House like he once did it makes more sense that he'd latch onto Amber and be so emotional over someone he dated for 4 months

WTF. I tell my friends I love them all the freaking time. Why is it so hard for two guys on a t.v. show to acknowledge the same thing??

I mean seriously! I don't know what is up TPTB's butt that they can't have it said. Not every episode. not holding hands and skipping through fields of daisies, but c'mon. They especially need to have Wilson get off his ass and say something concrete to House. Romantic love is not the only love there is, Wilson!

I took it more as the only person he's ~*~allowed~*~ himself to love for a long time, because loving House has gotten him hurt in the past. (Even though it's like the best thing in his life, right? Geez). Either way, that statement only bugged me for a second, because no matter what he says, you don't get a relationship like theirs, with that kind of devotion, without love.

I haven't watched the episode yet, but I don't think you gave too much away that I spoiled it for myself.
I agree with you, especially since House told Wilson he loved him in 97 Seconds.

Wilson left PPTH but he never moved out of the apartment. When House goes to see Wilson in episode 2, the walls behind Wilson are that same teal-green of Amber's apartment. Also Wilson said in the episode where he came back to PPTH that he had found a job at "Mercer" -- Mercer is the name of the county Princeton is in.

I know that it's much harder for men to say out loud that they love each other, but c'mon! House has said that Wilson loves him; it's time for Wilson to say it!

I like Devil's Advocate, so awesome.

I think Wilson coming back to Princeton-Plainsboro showed that he loves House. He had a new job; he had already "broken up" with House; there was no real reason to come back. It was because he loved House. (And I'm still pissed that the show had him come back without discussing the issues raised in Dying Changes Everything, but I'll get over that.)

hmm... i don't think it has to mean he loves house for him to come back... What if he finally saw that Cameron's advice is right - that there are no 'rational' or good choices right now - he's kept his apartment in stasis and he runs away from the job change as soon as he has an excuse (ie house was more fun than anything else he's done) >_> but I dunno they don't seem like friends now :( not the same way and I think it's partly that we have never seen any real resolution as you've indicated >_> Wilson owes House an explination and/or apology for how he treated him that episode and I don't think that'd happen behind the scenes so >_>

I know! It is very difficult for a lot of men to say that, and Wilson and House are both more screwed up than typical men (I bet Kutner could tell a friend he loved him), but arrrrggggh, I just feel sometimes like the whole show is set up around this idea that romantic love and parental love are the only two kinds of love!

"[Amber] was the only person I've loved for a long time."
While I do see what you mean by: "What in the freaking world do you call the level of intimacy and devotion that House and Wilson have, if not love?

I take this line to mean the only (female/girlfriend) Wilson's loved for a very long time. I wouldn't include my female best friend in a statement like that. There are many types of love, but their's is not romance like with Amber. Just my humble opinion.

I'd pretty much fall for a guy in a second if he admitted to me that he loved his male best friend. That kind of relationship is so interesting to me! I used to enjoy watching House and Wilson's grow on this show, but I've been disappointed lately :(

And House owes Wilson an explanation and an apology for all the ways House used Wilson over the years before House's Head/Wilson's Heart. I am so annoyed neither of those things were addressed in Birthmarks.

indeed House owes him a huge apology too :( they both have hurt eachother alot

I'm not fussing at Wilson. I'm fussing at the writers who keep dropping the ball on having Wilson verbally acknowledge what House means to him, and who seem to continually put forth the idea that romantic love is the only kind of love worth having.

They could have had Wilson say, "I loved her deeply, with all my heart," and it would have had the same poignancy within the scene.

I thought Amber was wonderful for Wilson. I loved their romance. I also loved that House was determined that his claim on Wilson's time and attention would be taken just as seriously.

Sorry for spoiling, but that line's not the crux of the episode or anything.

House has said that Wilson loves him; it's time for Wilson to man up and say that he loves House.

Would this Wilson, in this time and place, classify his feelings for House as "love"?

I mean, dude can be kinda dense some times.

Gotcha! And I 'did' get it that you were fussing at the writer's line their. I did not get to watch the ep, but it wasn't necessary to get what the meaning was.

I agree that this show (and others) need to show other types of love. There is Phileo & Agape love which is brotherly/friendship love and unconditional love...that would apply to their relationship.

Dude's dense, yep. I want the show to quit making him dense. I mean, c'mon, in Son of a Coma Guy, Wilson's the one talking all about unconditional love, but he won't say anything directly to House?

RSL said in TV Guide during an interview on House and Wilson, "Why is everyone so obsessed with homosexuality?" Two reasons: (1) House and Wilson having sex would be hot; and (2) as a society we have an extremely hard time acknowledging that any love other than romantic or familial love exists.

This is a sore spot for me, as you might have guessed.

You didn't spoil it for me, I read the subject line then just peeked real fast and figured it was ok.
I agree, and I think Wilson does love House, or why else would he do all the things he does to help him. Like try to get him off the vicodin in Detox, losing his job to save House's and lying to Tritter, just to mention a few. I don't know what the writers are thinking, but they need to rewatch some episondes.
