It was very fun! I've watched it so many times, sheesh. I think they should conduct every interview this way. Have him talk for an hour and edit out all the serious bits.
The parts where he genuinely laughed were so cute, too.
This would have to be the most I've ever seen him talk, ever. Either Lisa brings him out of his shell, he was on something, or he'd had a good lay the night before.
LISA AND RSL ARE BOTH TOO DAMN WONDERFULLY WONDERFUL AND CUTE IN THIS INTERVIEW.
They spliced a lot of footage out, I think. The original interview was probably 95% Lisa, 3% RSL being serious, and 2% RSL being goofy, and they only kept the goofy. :D
How funny was it that he called her "Lisa" and she called him "Robert Sean Leonard." First names just don't seem to suit him. XD
Hee. I watched this interview about three times yesterday -- I actually thought he was overtired (either he's got shadows under his eyes or he's in makeup for a scene) and that's why he was so talkative.
I did think it was interesting that he said crying was easy and that it was fake laughter he found hard to do.
As I told Ticcy, I think they edited way down to get this vid. The original interview was probably 95% Lisa, 3% RSL being serious, and 2% RSL being goofy, and they only kept the goofy.
I wonder if crying really is easy for him (he's certainly a master at the almost-crying), or if he's being modest.
On another subject, Mr. L's quote of the day: "I don't believe penguins should be on public signs."
What other subject could that possibly be?!?!
I'll bet -- heavily -- that RSL's quirkiness in these interviews translates as charm in real life when he has conversations with people who know him well; the way LE was cracking up made me think that his non-sequiturs and dead pan wit are greatly anticipated and enjoyed by his friends :D
Mr. L was commenting on the pictures accompanying this article (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/getthere/2008/09/bus_stops_moving_in_silver_spr.html). :D
I think knowing him in person would give greater context to his comments, for sure. His viewpoint on life (based on public interviews/comments) is so unique that it's probably easy for us to mis-interpret or simply not connect to what he's trying to say.
When my brother was a teen, he had a tendency to start conversations in his head and begin speaking midway through. Sometimes I wonder if RSL is doing the same. : )
I think it was my favorite RSL interview. I always love Lisa in interviews, but usually RSL looks so tense and freaked. He was totally relaxed and goofy. He does look a little tired and for me he's starting down the too skinny route. I love the man's cheekbones, but to me he looks better with a bit of pudge.
He did look loose, but still engaged. Did you see the interview with him and Lisa on the S4 DVD? He was so loose that he seemed disinterested. Oy yoy yoy.
I don't think he's getting super skinny again; I think he made friends with the lighting people and camera people and is getting "skinny looking" angles. :D
It's a mystery. I would say that he is extremely nostalgic for his childhood, except that he references many things that *adults* would've enjoyed. Did you watch Bob Newhart when you were eight? Actually, now that I think of it, I might have. My parent's watched it all the time.
Bad acid trip?
*imagines RSL on acid* *laughs and laughs and laughs and...*
Do remember that scene in Annie Hall where Alvy Singer says that he doesn't smoke pot because, "I don't respond well to mellow, you know what I mean, I-I have a tendency to... if I get too mellow, I-I ripen and then rot."
The Golddigger Girls from the Dean Martin Show is the reference he made that I'll never get over. Wikipedia says they were introduced in 1968 and went off the air in 1974. WHEN HE WAS FIVE.
I have never seen Annie Hall. *hangs head* I'll take my whipping now.
This interview was just too adorable. Makes me so very excited for Hugh's and RSL's TV Guide interview. That's an interview that should be filmed. His "commentator" face is to die for.
I can't wait for the TV Guide interview! I'm trying not to get too high of an expectation level, but... EEEEEE!
I'm especially trying not to think about the cover, even though I really, really, really want to see them have HL recreate the iconic shot of Lloyd in "Say Anything":
That man is seriously off in his own little world. You know how autistic kids get sometimes, when they just get all internal and don't care how it looks? Yeah, that's our RSL. <3
