I feel like there've been a lot of posts, comments, and fics lately about how Wilson is not a very good friend to House. In the spirit of positivity, let's turn this around and list all the things House has done to be a good friend to Wilson.

I've got:
- House let Wilson stay with him after the Julie break-up
- House didn't turn Wilson in for sleeping with a patient

What else? The S4 season finale is fresh in all our minds, but things that happened in canon or were referenced in canon before then would be great.

(PS. Hi, I'm back.)

When has Chase ever expressed a desire to be House's friend? When has House ever shown any sign that he wants Chase as a friend?
I am so confused by House-Chase fans. I have read posts which say, with complete sincerity, "House adores Chase" and "House loves Chase like a son". Sorry for repeating myself, but are we watching the same show? Seriously, I read their arguments, I've watched the same episodes and I still can't see where they're getting that from.
The bowling scene in NMMNG is the ONLY time we've ever seen House voluntarily spend time with Chase, and the ONLY time we've ever seen Chase voluntarily spend time with House. In four seasons. Before that we had House respecting Chase less than the other ducklings (oh yes he did), Chase selling House out to Volger, Chase being afraid of House (he got over it but after 3.5 years on the job), House firing Chase, and Chase understandably not wanting anything to do with House after being fired. They've done things to help each other but no more than they've done for others on the show. I'm not saying they hate each other, they clearly care about each other, but not any more than House-Cameron and less than House-Foreman. I've never been able to see this special bond some keep insisting is there. People love Chase, I respect that, he's adorable, I just don't see House loving him too. And I've never seen Chase try to be House's friend. Which would be the first requirement of being a better friend than Wilson!

I think Chase likes House a lot, and would like very much to have House's approval (From "Finding Judas": CHASE: [resentfully] He nearly maimed a little girl. I got it right. And I told him, and it didn't matter. WILSON: Chase, you solved one. You helped a patient. That better be enough for you. Beckett was going to call his play "Waiting for House’s Approval", but thought it was too grim.) Chase was so very happy during that bowling scene, it tickled me. House has shown less interest in Chase, but he has seem impressed by Chase's growth in Season Four... and it was Chase he took bowling, not Foreman or Taub or anyone else.

Anyway, my question to Simmy -- who is a Chase fan and a great Chase/Foreman writer, by the way -- was if Chase and House spent more time together, would/could Chase end up over time being a better friend than Wilson? Because some people (not Simmy) have proposed that Chase would be, so I was curious for her opinion.

Heh, I've seen it said here and there that Chase is the "only one who truly cares about House" and such. I mean, really. He's a sweetheart. He respects and likes House and they get along, but he's not--and I don't think could or would be--closer than Wilson.

So my answer to that question, FWIW, is no. A good friend, yeah, but he's much too laid back to play the more serious roles, like House's conscience, that Wilson does, IMO. I'd like to see all three of them as buddies, though, because despite the lack of canon scenes between them, I think Wilson and Chase would get along fairly well too. XD I've always thought Chase was like a mini combined House and Wilson. Several of Wilson's mannerisms and House's logical faculties, and he's certainly pretty enough. LOL

(and I just remembered you get messages for every comment. I'll re-lurk and continue my memming spree in a sec, I promise. I'm so sorry. XP)

Please don't feel you have to lurk! I really enjoy seeing comments from people who think about and analyze the show. It makes me feel less lonely and obsessive :D

The point you make about Chase's willingness (or lack thereof) to play the serious roles of being House's "keeper" is a good one. At some times, I think House really wants to be reined in (not all the time, but sometimes) and he needs someone to be stern with him and meddle on behalf of other people. Wilson doesn't do it well all the time, but he does try to do it.

lol Thank you. And same here--that's why I like finding posts like this. I've a ridiculously obsessive/addictive personality. XD ...Still think I'm crazy, but at least that may not be such a bad thing. Haha.

Thanks--and I agree. :-) Really, whether he wants to be reined in or not, he often needs to be. ;b Wilson does try, and, even though his attempts sometimes fail or backfire on him, he keeps trying. Now that I think about it, that's...kind of admirable. XD Just sticking to what he thinks is right--I imagine House respects that, even though it often works against him. But I digress. ...I do think Chase could give good advice as well (like the idea of joint custody), but perhaps not as good as Wilson's. I can't help but think Chase would be the playful, casual friend. And if that bowling scene is anything to go by, that works out rather adorably. <3 There's also the mentor/student aspect, maybe. Not so much in season 4, but I used to think he kind of looked up to House almost as a replacement father. But I guess now he's grown up and moved out. XD

...Now I've got an image of House and Chase teaming up to pull pranks, and generally acting like a couple of adolescents. And Wilson's the one stuck having to rein the both of them in. LOL Er, I'm digressing again. Sorry. <:-) I guess my final answer is "Yeah, they're cute together, but Chase isn't Wilson." ;-p
