Others will speak on meatier subjects; I'm still stuck on:

HOW IN THE WORLD DOES A MAN LIVING IN A HOTEL HAVE A CABLE BILL?

I was willing to forgive the TiVo in a hotel room thing, but c'mon.  Even the crappiest, rinky-dinkiest motels give you free cable.

ETA:  And what was the Yahoo top story just now?  Outrageous Hotel Perks.  For everybody but Wilson, apparently.

ETA 2: Asynca figured it out!

Wilson watches so much pay-per-view porn that they have to send him a separate bill.  LOLOL

LOL! I just asked the same thing. That's some cheap hotel, maybe he has to pay for blankets and sheets and towels.......He should move back in with House it would be cheaper and House could borrow more from him :)

Pure writer laziness! Either they forgot he lives in a hotel or they couldn't come up with anything else he might be paying.

It pisses me off when they miss the easy stuff.

But on the other hand, he definitely should move back in with House. : )

True.

And why does he pay with checks?? Doesn't everyone pay online these days??

I get mad now when I have to pay with checks.

AND WHEN WRITERS ARE LAZY.

On the plus side, Wilson was looking fine and that fight was hot. I mean, hawt.

He must be paying cable for some of his needier patients. They need TV to take their minds off their pain.

Good fanwank, good fanwank. I'm calmer now. : )

Except he said "my" cable bill. This on top of the uncorrected "three alimonies" last week -- it's like Wilson is a total patsy, giving away all his money! And I can't belive that, because it's so unlike him.

No, really.

Seriously.

Well, he couldn't say "my patients' cable," could he? House would jump all over that.

So what if House should have jumped all over the fact that he doesn't get cable in the hotel?

I want to know why he's still in a hotel at all. It was sad and pathetic before, but now it's just weird. I'm sure he could afford to stay there no problem with the wage he would earn, but... who the hell lives in a hotel? =O

All that said, though, you bring up a very valid point (not that I've seen the episode yet).

You know, some say the hotel room is a metaphor for the closet... That once Wilson admits who he is, he'll get a place of his own.

Could be, could be.

***

I apologize for the ranting; I hate it when the writers make mistakes that I WOULD MOCK IN AN MST if they showed up in fanfic. Those mistakes are too egregious to let go un-ranted.

Ooooh... I quite like that metaphor. I think I shall go with that metaphor, seeing the writers are most likely going to keep Wilson living in a hotel for the rest of his life. They seem to forget things, such as continuity, or issues that have been raised and are then never revisited again. I'm not really sure why, either. That's, you know, really sloppy writing. D=

Also, why are you apologising? It's worth ranting about! (A
number of the things on the show are worth ranting about - the show's medicine for example. aksklldfgkdf)

I think he might have moved out of it by now. Seriously, it's the only thing I can think of. It's too damn expensive to live in a hotel for that long, even if they've got weekly rates.

I think Wilson doesn't have the cash. Doctors make a lot, yes, but not that much.

He was still living in the hotel as of TiVo episode this season... the one where he stole House's guitar. I agree with you wholeheartedly that it's a waste of money for his character (based on the room layout it's not even an extended-stay hotel), but for some reason TPTB have kept him there.

(Although Wilson likely does make enough to afford it. Based on salary.com's oncologist numbers, and adding on that Wilson's a department head, my estimate of his gross income is $500K per year. But the hotel is a huge waste of money, regardless.)

I'm in such a pathetically optimistic mood that I grinned like an idiot, sure that it was a sign that the writers had gotten him out of the FUCKING HOTEL. Then I was immediately depressed that he hadn’t moved back in with House. There’s no pleasing me.

But... if he's out of the hotel, don't you think he would've said "I've got cable now"? Like, a hint to us poor viewers who are interested in the lives of characters besides House?

Also wish that Wilson really would get off his butt and move back in with House. C'mon, if they're determined to go the platonic route, there's always bunkbeds. : )

I can chalk the alimony thing up to House...forgetting Wilson only pays one? Somehow?

And maybe Wilson's out of the hotel all of a sudden and we just haven't seen it yet?

Or maybe the writers just figured they could throw in a scene of Wilson rolling up his sleeves and bank on that rendering everyone incapable of rational thought.

Door #3. For sure. Look what putting him in a hoodie did for the guitar episode. Totally made me forget that Wilson actually ruined a $15,000 antique... Grrrrrrrr.

I thought that, too, until someone pointed out at the end of that episode, when House is playing his guitar, it's got bandages all over it. And in the next episode, Cole comes into House's office at one point and House is working on fixing the guitar. : (

I suppose one could always argue that Wilson doesn't really pay a cable bill—that he was just saying that to deflect House and cable was the only thing he could think of on the spur of the moment that wasn't a utility.

Still, I think it does reflect poor writing, which is annoying. (I didn't recognize the writer's name for this episode; was he or she new?)

"Women" are barely in the cast at all. Cuddy used to be a woman. Cameron is House's Puppy Romance & Back-up Romantic Option/Bleeding-Heart Maiden. Thirteen is a Mary Sue. And the less said about CIA Butterface the better.

CTB was a woman, but we couldn't have that, obvs.

From how understand it, he's renting a hotel apartment. Has to pay for his own utilities I guess. Does that make any sense?

Sorry I'm so blah-blah on this subject. Your idea does make sense, except (1) House was in Wilson's place (and Tritter before him) and it was just one room. Extended stay places typically have separate living area with kitchenette/kitchen. The look more like a real apartment. (2) One of the benefits of apartment hotels/extended-stay is that you pay everything on one bill. No separate utilities.

I'm rolling my eyes at myself because I know I'm not supposed to be thinking this ddeply about this!

I must confess that I missed that - I was too busy wondering what they'd do next (e.g. make out on Wilson's desk...)

Anyway, don't people usually pay things like that by direct debit or standing order? (Or online, but it amounts to the same thing.)

I like Aynca's suggestion, since it's much better than thinking that the quality of the writing is going downhill D:
