I have to think more about Cuddy's timeline. My thought had been that Cuddy achieved her male status before James' punishment but after the conversation related in this fic. But you bring up a great point - if she was still female, they probably wouldn't have allowed her to advise them, and would be even less likely to consider her a friend.
I would've made a big mistake with the prequel I'm planning, so I'm very grateful for the comment. THANKS!
