OK, ladies and gents, I am going to have to insist you listen to this extended interview with Hugh Laurie. He's a delightful, intelligent person, and it's so fascinating to hear his thoughts. He is also a weirdo, as this interview brings out, in the best possible way. Some of you may be particularly interested to hear his thoughts on pain -- in general, House's, and HL's own.

Marykir documented it, and sheppa posted it to RSL-Daily, so thank you to both of them.

Fresh Air 25 Apr 2012 39:27 radio interview with Hugh, almost entirely about House.

As Marykir says: "Includes clips from previous episodes, Hugh reading a bit from The Gun Seller, and a clip from Blackadder. There is a spoilerish moment ~10-11min into the interview. If you skip that minute, I think the rest is safe..."

What a terrific interview. It was almost eerie when he started to slip a little bit into his American accent there.

And what a truly lovely thing to say about RSL. :-D

I heard and obeyed *g*

He has always seemed to be a very complicated person - not just complex, but complicated - and I do wonder how much his friends worry about him.

I have wondered for a while if maybe Hugh was exaggerating a bit about his affection for RSL, being polite for a co-star, but that unprompted statement has convinced me. It's a shame that we're not likely to see them act together again, but a pleasure to know that they'll stay great friends.

The part about causing himself pain was just so... I understand that. Friends of mine in high school had that kind of impulse. Hugh's talked before about RSL being a stabilizing part of his life, and I think now it must be true. Glad they've had each other to spend time with, rely on.
