Vid Rec - Please read all vid tags
Last year, Mr. L and I watched the recent Watchmen series starring Regina King, and were blown away by its magnificence.
Today Festivids opened and there is a Watchmen vid set to the song "Nothing Is Safe" by clipping. The vid reminded me how great and fearsome the series is, and reminded me how I felt watching.
Nothing is safe in America, and I need to continue to grapple with, continue to push myself to fully accept that it was my family, my culture that made it that way. Those villains I see on the screen, who were real, who actually perpetrated that evil? They were doing it for me.
I don't have to exploit the inheritance they left for me, but I do have to understand they wanted me to have it. I do have to stand next to Black people, and Indigenous people, and all other people of color, and acknowledge that they're seeing the past and the present correctly.
Until we White people can do that en masse, and shun the individuals who choose not to, nothing is safe.
