Dear Festividder

Dear Festividder and any treatmakers,

I'm very excited to be getting a vid from you!

Robert Sean Leonard RPF

He's handsome; he's weird; all his pop culture references are from the 1970s or 80s. I'm 100% convinced he's autistic - convinced not in a "diagnosing" way but in a "wow the things they do and say sure seem familiar" way. I sincerely love him AND I enjoy mocking his foibles, which are many. There seem to be several Tiktok "edits" of him as teens discover him through Dead Poets Society and House MD, but I've only found one actual fanvid. There's not a lot of RPF footage of him because he's a homebody and he doesn't like working. Here is a YouTube playlist of publicly available interviews, behind-the-scenes videos, etc. and my stash of pictures. I really like two moments from the House MD Swan Song video Hugh Laurie made (6:17 RSL cuddling up to Hugh's stand-in and 28:55 RSL's pants with dogs on them) which is as of 12/1/24 available for FREE on YouTube. The Festivids mods have said you can also use footage from his works to supplement, so here's his IMDB. In late 2023, he played a recurring character on Season 2 of The Gilded Age, so there was a teeny bit more interview/behind-the-scenes footage of him -- losing his hair but but not his fondness for out-of-date pop culture references; I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. [personal profile] bironic knows the extent of my obsession fannish interest.

For music for your RSL vid, if you went by his pop culture references, it'd be a lot of white artists from the 1970s and before, but I'm not as keen on that era as 1980s progressive/alternative (from when he and I were actually teens). However, I enjoy the band Sub-Radio, and their song "King of My Heart" would be a lovely fit with how I feel about RSL overall:

Or, I would bet RSL would agree wholeheartedly with the message in their remake "I Don't Wanna Dance With Nobody"

Sherlock & Co. (Podcast)
Can't say enough good things about this modern-day retelling of the Sherlock Holmes stories that is completely unrelated to the BBC TV show. It is established from John and Sherlock's first meeting that Sherlock is neurodivergent, and the depiction feels absolutely authentic throughout all the episodes. The mysteries are fun for both those who have no knowledge of the Sherlock Holmes stories (a surprisingly large and active part of the fanbase) and those who are steeped in Watsonian lore. The relationship between Sherlock and John is as potent and devoted as always and benefits from the addition of Mariana Ametxazurra, who Sherlock promptly labels Mrs. Hudson. Mariana becomes the business manager for Sherlock & Co and is a delightful friend.

I don't know how to vid podcasts, so will be enthralled with what you do! There's a ton of lovely fanart out there, so that could be one route. I won't mind at all if you use multiple artists so that the depiction of Sherlock and John (and Mariana) vary. And/or maybe Sidney Paget's original illustrations? If you choose to use video footage from other Sherlock Holmes adaptations, please try not to use the BBC version just because I would like to see different faces for the podcast.<3

Ode to Joy (2019) [SAFETY]
Cute romcom with an interesting (if a bit farfetched) neurodivergence plot.* Melissa Rauch is hilarious. Really open to anything, but I'm very curious what happened after the movie ended, so if you want to crossover with other Martin Freeman works (Breeders?) and Morena Baccarin works (Deadpool?) to show that, I would be forever in your debt.
*OK, having An Emotion does not literally make me or perhaps anyone pass out/shut down. But having to manage your life extremely closely or otherwise Too Much is very relatable.

Threesome (1994) [SAFETY]
A movie in which two guys (Stephen Baldwin and Josh Charles) and a gal (Lara Flynn Boyle) are accidentally assigned to the same dorm suite in college, and angst and hijinks ensue. I get all up in my 90s feels with this one about figuring out your sexuality and your life. Got a marvelous fanvid one year from my fave Bironic, but being greedy I'm asking for another.

Watson and Holmes (Comics)
In awe of anyone who can vid comics, so your idea will be better than mine!

Avenue 5 (TV)
Very open to whatever you'd like to do, as long as it includes Billie and doesn't focus too much on Herman Judd, Matt, or Karen, all of whom are hilarious but obnoxious. Maybe the play-within-a-play aspect? Or set it to a serious song? Crossover with a classic cruise-ship disaster movie like The Poseidon Adventure or Titanic?

Music: I personally enjoy 1980s alternative and geek rock (They Might Be Giants, Dead Milkmen, Weezer, BNL, Devo, Paul and Storm, Jonathan Coulton) but am definitely open to other genres. I like vids that tell a story (or make a point, or tell a joke, or some combination thereof), and songs that tell a story lend themselves pretty well to that.
